Judging by the comments, it's a good thing I didn't tune into today's match. So, as usual, the MNT shits its pants against real competition. Why am I not surprised...
Not a huge fan of Watts casually getting beat from behind there and then punting it out for a corner.
Obviously we are overreacting like fans do. We are playing well in creation but not finishing. They haven't finished well either but they have been more clinical than we have.
Keep at it. This has not played like a 2-0 game. If we lose, we lose with some unlucky finishing. No reason to panic, we've been doing fine.
Not a bad half to be honest even though the first 15 min were really shakey. The rest of the half we played positive soccer, outpossesing England and unlucky not to have a goal. If we were playing old US Soccer and bunkering, I would be pissed. But this team is playing technical and attacking football. The goals will come and this is a positive sign for the future
After the first 15 minutes we were the better team by far. Sargent missed three great chances. Everyone looks tired already on both teams. No idea what the second half holds but I’m glad I didn’t turn the game off after the second goal.
Since I haven't been on here for the first half, I'd like to ask you all, like pretty much every game, what Ferri does beside miss longshots by a few inches. Also, Sancho is playing for Dortmund right now.
I appreciate Booth's work rate. Team is playing way too spontaneous. I'm all for free flowing but it's ending up like one or two players try to attack while the rest watch. Then they just switch who is participating in the drill. They also seem to have the same problems with shape that the senior team has. Huge gaps that are allowing a ton of space for counter attacks. If we had super 1v1 defenders we might get away with it but that isn't the case.
I'll be the first to admit, he has been good the rest of the half. I judged him way too early in the game and with too little exposure to him.
This almost seemed like they were in awe of England coming out, right? And England is good, no doubt. Lots of skill in tight spaces, and generally just a better technical player than we have. But agreed, we were competitive after the first 20 mins. That finishing for both sides has been absolutely atrocious. And the 30 yard hits when we have a 4 v 4 or something? Why? There is so much space for through balls and on the wings. Entertaining game, though I can't say US deserves anything better than being down 2. Could easily be any score under 6 for either team, but I'd say overall England has been 1 or 2 goals better.
The difference so far has been a Liverpool prospect who seems to have ice in his veins. Hopefully we can find some way to cut this to 2-1 and put more pressure on them but it is way too wide open to predict that. The more we waste the more likely they will beat us on a counter.
He's not even close to the best player, but the difference between having Ferri and Goslin in there against athletic teams is a big difference.
England has been strong, but the U.S. response, bar finishing, was (eventually) pretty good. Anyone's guess whether England has it in them to kill this off, or the U.S. will finally put away one of its chances and make it a hot second half.
As someone who has been critical of this team, I think that is pretty harsh. You have a makeshift back line and a rocket like Brewster, and the start of the game was tough. The US has fought back and truthfully should be one down or tied. This group is worth cheering for.
