This game is scheduled to hit stores worldwide on Friday, 9/29/17.

The demo release date is currently rumored to be on Tuesday, 9/12/17.

Which team(s) are you planning to play as in this game? :)

The story-mode from FIFA 17 continues into this edition with The Journey: Hunter Returns.

Anyone playing? Picked it up yesterday and have only played around with the FUT stuff. Looking forward to continuing the Alex Hunter stuff and just general gameplay as well....

Unlike the past few years when I was able to buy the latest version of FIFA the day it hit stores, a tighter-than-usual wallet had kept me from buying FIFA 18 until earlier this week. Better late than never, I suppose. ;)

Also unlike past years when I'd trade in my copy of FIFA to GameStop for store credit just shortly before the new edition arrived, I have yet to trade in FIFA 17 since I haven't finished The Journey. Once I complete it, I'll trade in FIFA 17 and then start Hunter Returns in FIFA 18.

As for the gameplay and stuff: it's really good, a slightly-refined version of last year's game, which isn't a bad thing since last year's was really good. The A.I. defense this time around was initially harder than usual, but a recent Update toned it down just enough to be more enjoyable again. There are also lots of background things that has raised my enjoyment of the game, such as home stadiums being more decorated to recognize the home team, an in-stadium announcer (in addition to the regular "TV announcers") calling out player names and such as real in-stadium announcers typically do, the return of a player-creator to the console version (unless it was there last year as well... I don't remember), etc.

The PS4 version of the game is even "PS4 Pro Enhanced", meaning that it natively supports 4k. The problem is that even though I now have a 4k TV, I currently only have a first-generation PS4 which doesn't support 4k, so I have to decide soon whether or not I should trade in my PS4 for credit toward a PS4 Pro.

My one complaint of the game thus far isn't really a complaint of the game at all, but rather of my real-life favorite team that I play in this game: in the last few years but especially last year (2016) with the long-awaited addition of a jersey sponsor, the San Jose Earthquakes' primary uniform was the best uniform in team history and I felt an extra bit of pride whenever playing as them in FIFA 17. However, they changed their primary uniform to something pretty crappy for this MLS season and it's now somewhat aesthetically cringe-worthy to play them in FIFA 18. :(

In any case, I hope that all helped. :)

With PES 2018 putting out such a strong game, and in particular their commitment to listening to the community and providing updates in Data Packs throughout the year, surely EA need to up their game? Let me rephrase that: EA should feel the need to put out a more refreshed game next time; they don’t need to, as players return to purchase the latest iteration of this franchise season after season and spend a lot of money on the FUT component. It strikes me as incredibly lazy: yes, it is a very playable game, but there is only an incremental improvement on FIFA 17. Any thoughts?

I'm enjoying the game quite a bit...still have not started the new Alex Hunter plot but liking FUT and just playing random matchups, etc. Gameplay is better than in 17 (in my opinion) though maybe slightly skewed towards offense....though maybe not, as I have been improving on defense and getting better at making solid tackles/interceptions.

I think it's a step up from 17, but I think there could still be some improvements made. Presentation kills PES (as usual) but they could learn a couple things from PES about the game play. Still, very playable and enjoyable (again, more so than 17, in my opinion)

I heard that EA Sports is not going to do a stand alone game for the World Cup this year and will instead release World Cup mode down loadable content in Fifa 18.

    That kinda stinks.

I always look forward to the World Cup games. Last time they did DLC for Euro 2012 it was just not that impressive and had some glitches.

It’s not confirmed yet. I’m still hoping they release a stand-alone game.

I hope so too, but I think we would have heard about it by now.

Rumors are there is going to be an announcement soon.

And there are still people who are holding out hope that it is a stand alone game in other forums.
(I certainly hope so too but am still a little skeptical,)

All the latest rumors are basically pointing to the World Cup game being available as a free download for those who have FIFA 18.

The World Cup download turned out to be okay I guess.

I much rather have had a stand alone game to purchase like in years past but it is difficult for me to really feel bad about a free download.

The only complaints I have are:

    1) I cannot play with the obscure teams that did not make the World Cup.

    2) Starting the online tournament in the round of 16 instead of a Group stage was a bit surprising for me. In the previous games you had to play the Group Stage then play knockouts which made it a bit more challenging for me at least.
It used to take me months to win an online World Cup. This setup took me two days so it is not as gratifying in a way. :p

    3) Last complaint is that I can't pick all the young guys for the USA that played in the last friendly. Hopefully in the next roster update I will be able to just play with the sub 23 kids who excelled against Bolivia.

The uniforms are nice though and the stadiums are cool. And it is fun playing online with a bunch of people who want to play with National teams. The last few weeks on FIFA it has been so difficult to find online players who don't want to use Real Madrid or Barca so it is great to get out of that endless repetitive gaming club cycle. Finding players to play World Cup games is a lot more fun.
