If Holland were put in the England, Serbia or Poland group, i think it'd have been different for them. So it ends up being a matter of luck and chance of the draw (based on FIFA ridiculous rankings) when conforming the groups.

There was always going to be someone left out between France, Switzerland and Holland, and looking at the other groups that's, to say the least, unfair.

That doesn't mean they still weren't awful this cycle and have been since 2014, i give you that...

Si pues, con casi 50 que sentido tiene hacer eliminatorias, mas fácil usarían su bendito ranking para llenar los cupos

Have those brazilian fans that want their team to lose learned to do proper math?

The Brazil-Chile result can only have influence in Argentina's fate in the case Argentina ties vs Ecuador. If Argentina wins, then Brazil-Chile doesn't matter to them. If Argentina loses, then it also doesn't matter (because ARG won't be able to catch CHI in any way).

So in the case ARG ties they would be in 26 points and +1 GD. So, the only way Chile can end below them is if they lose to Brazil by 2 or more goals.

Conclusion: Brazilian fans don't have to ask their team to lose to Chile, they just have to ask them to not win by more than one goal :ROFLMAO:

    6 go directly
    .5 to playoff

More than likely the next WC will be the last for the marathon qualifiers....

the way the Dutch league is going and how the NT has now essentially failed to qualify for the last euro and next wc

I could see the Dutch go the way of the Hungarians.....

That's a bit excessive. Hungary is as bad as the Faroe Islands these days.

I can see The Netherlands decline but not THAT much.

I dont think anyone in the 50s would think Hungary would be as bad as the Faore Islands 67 years later ;)

lets just say the Dutch time in the elite appears to be ending and they are rejoining the pack

The difference is that the Hungarians had a golden generation that lasted 10 years and had other teams that were OK. The Netherlands have been an important football nation since the 1970's.

You also have to consider money. Its become dominant and more in the European game. A club like Ajax and Feyenoord have always been more than Budapest Honved. Unless something drastic happens, I can't see the Netherlands resorting to that in my lifetime. At worst, what Belgium was at the start of the century to 2014.

umm I think Hungarians dominance was more than 50s

for example they were also WC runners up in 1938

and your point about money kinda goes against the Dutch..their clubs have ceased to be powerhouses in Europe and dont look likely to ever be that again

Ajax will no longer be a candidate to win the UCL...something unthinkable 20 years ago

They won't and aren't now. They have enough money to produce proper players.

Like the AFA, the Dutch federation is the joke of Europe.

Just because they will miss one Euro and one WC does not mean they are the next Hungary...France missed four consecutive tournaments in Euro88, WC90, Euro92 and WC94, still resurfaced as a power in the mid-nineties.

My feeling is the Dutch will be back as elite by the start of next decade.

We don't want to lose to Chile tomorrow. We want to win and I expect we will win - but I also expect a tough match from a competitive Chilean side who recently won two continental cups in a 1-year span and who gave Germany a hell of a match at the final of the 2017 Confederations Cup.

Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if Brazil wins by only one goal............

my impression was that France was never really a power till the late 90s..

    similar to Spain

they had the potential but never quite got it done...these days they are clear cut powerhouses

we shall see how it pans out

But enough with Hungary Holland or Europe, back to our continent people!
The one thing that really worries me is that FIFA's shady hand will have an impact on this last matchday, setting a suitcase with "goodies" outside Ecuador's changing room!
Either way, the incredible thing is that Colombia can qualify even losing with Peru, but for that to happen Arg and Par CANNOT win! (that's why i'm worried about FIFA's corruption). Having said that, a draw against Peru will be Golden!

The briefcase was a little late...

Speaking of briefcases... Anybody knows if Ricci is one of the brazilians refereeing any of these games?
