I *love* this version of La Bamba. It features artists from/playing in Mexico, the US, Australia, Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, Congo, Mali, Serbia, Senegal, and perhaps other places I have forgotten. It is recorded through an organization called Playing for Change which uses music to create cultural understanding, and they have videos like this one on their website from many countries/cultures (I really like their version of "Guantanamera" for example). Give it a listen (I particularly like Alberto de la Rosa on the harp, and a singer named La Marisoul).
I was almost afraid to listen; the last time I listened to something you "love" I ended up with three Ted Hawkins CDs and driving my wife crazy for several weeks with my latest obsession. EDIT: ...and lamenting that I was never going to get to see him play because HE'D BEEN DEAD 20 YEARS!

I'm glad you went with that one; I would have, but I was saving myself for Monday, And a brief history behind this song: (I remembered most of it, but went to Wiki to fill in gaps) "According to Geldof, he wrote the song after reading a telex report at Georgia State University's campus radio station, WRAS, on the shooting spree of 16-year-old Brenda Ann Spencer, who fired at children in a school playground at Grover Cleveland Elementary School in San Diego, California, US on 29 January 1979, killing two adults and injuring eight children and one police officer. Spencer showed no remorse for her crime and her full explanation for her actions was "I don't like Mondays. This livens up the day".[3] The song was first performed less than a month later."

We seem to have lost our way again, so let me throw this out for Friday. It is one of the worst songs I've ever heard - probably the worst 'Friday' song ever. I came across it the other day. I think the video only embellishes it's worst--ness. I kinda feel sorry for her, though; she was just a young kid who got (or paid for) a few friends together to make a video and have some fun.............and the dislikes poured like rain. Feel free to add a real Friday song...
