Bue.... Horrible defending again. Now we can only pray for a miracle, which is hard to imagine with the finishing we had today
Horrible game on all accounts. The defense was in shambles. They scored 3 goals and had two more that were rightly called off for off sides, but just barely... We were lucky. The Pinola-Maidana partnership is not working... Notice the only good match Pinola has had since he joined came against Banfield when Maidana was out- but even then, Pinola was poor marking (he was at fault for Civelli's goal), and better going forward. Up front, Borre was a complete disaster, just god awful. Nacho wasn't much better, those two misses were just Funes Mori-esque. I feel a bit like the Barcelona come back against PSG gave every team world wide hope when they need a come back, but this won't be easy. True, we did beat the strongest just last year 7-0, so why shouldn't we beat these clowns by that much? Knock out football is different than group stage, but we ARE on paper 5-6-7 goals better than this team, but we need to put the ball in the net. So mad right now, and so disappointed. We need to have faith. Wilstermann is nothing special, with a bit of luck and better finishing we can get a 3-0 to send it to penalties, and a 4-0 or 5-1 is not impossible either.
I'm having a night like this. If I don't post within 48 hours please worry about me #SOYDERIVERHASTALAMUERTE
Honestly gentlemen, our chances to win this tournament took a huge nosedive after both Driussi and Alario left. I thought maybe we could get a draw against this Bolivian side, but for christ sake, 3-0? That's inexcusable. In my honest opinion, the blame falls on Gallardo and the directors for not trying to sign a forward after Alario left. Scocco can't do it all and Borre is too green. Good thing I'm not a socio, otherwise I'd be voting D'Onofrio out in December.
River didn't truly deserve a 0-3 scoreline, as the only difference between the two teams was the finishing. We aren't talking about a complete walkover by Jorge Wilstermann by any means.. Any other given day that game could have finished a draw, or even in a victory for River. With that being said, Gallardo's tactical plan was the real disaster. We musn't forget that this a 180 minute game and winning in extreme altitudes has always been difficult, especially for us. Gallardo, being faithful to his philosophy, decided to go in search of the victory regardless of the scenario. Now, yes, if we would have won we'd all be praising Mune for his balls to confront the obstacles, but the truth is playing with these tactics in such scenarios is often sudden death... you could leave victorious with some luck, but a few mistakes put you in a deadly situation, and that's exactly what happened to us. I know it's easy to talk with the "Monday paper", but the ideal situation would have been to bulk up the midfield and play for a boring, high-pressure, short-passing, possessive 0-0 result. 4-5-1, move the ball around, never fully hit the accelerator unless an opening presents itself. Take that result to the second leg at home, and bam, no problem... instant access to semifinals. Gallardo should have taken Wilstermann's precedents in the current copa with Atletico Mineiro, Palmeiras, and Penarol as a clear warning, but we all know he likes to "go for the win in any field"... he'll learn, although unfortunately late in this case. With that being said, it isn't a completely impossible result to flip. I know the goal margin was much smaller, but everybody thought we were eliminated by Cruzeiro in 2015 after losing at home, only to go on to Brazil and achieve an unprecedented 3-0 victory. The Sudamericana game vs. Botafogo, where we miraculously scored the 3 goals needed to advance in the final 15 minutes of the series, also immediately comes to mind. The dangerous part will be the away goal. River will clearly be attacking desperately next week, while the Bolivians sit back and wait for the chance to counter. One opening for them that leads to a goal, and we'll have to score 5... if they score a second, good luck scoring the 6 needed to advance. As hard as it'll be, it is imperial that River maintain a calm and focused gameplan throughout the game.. It isn't an impossible score to achieve by any means (with Alario and Driussi I would actually feel quite confident), but we really have to hope our players bring their A game.... If Scocco/Borre play like last night, then we won't score a goal even if the match is played til the end of the year. I'm not losing hope --- we have the quality. We just have to hope our players get up on the right foot.
Marcelo Saracchi .... CRACK!!!! I also have faith in Borre. The goal will give him confidence, we'll need that Thursday. VAMOSSSSSSS
I hear there's heavy rain/storms in Buenos Aires, which obviously is far from ideal for our style of play, much less with two forwards who are practically useless in the air. @RiverGaucho , how are the times down there right now?
Que grande que sos Riiiiiiveeeeeerrrrr Sos crack muñe no te vayas nunca genio Che bosteros, donde se esconden????
Lol. Not even funny anymore. Ok. Maybe a little. You see that Bosteros?!!!! That's how a real team performs!!!!
Why are you talking to the bosteros? They can't hear you from their cave. At the very least one month til we see them again.
result brought back bad memories of 1996 when River destroyed Sporting Cristal 6-0 in the round of 16 after losing 2-1 in Lima ( with a Crespo wondergoal included) epic comeback that eventually turned into a humiliating defeat
