They've also let Thiago, Alexis Sanchez and Pedro leave over the past few years. An absolute shambles of a club.

I really don't see things as gloomy as some of you guys. A good CB is very needed.
However, as far as the rest goes.

Joe Gomez is proving to be like a new signing. As is Alexander. He showed his quality on Saturday. And Andy Robertson is one.
    FB's
    Trent Alexander Arnold.
    Clyne.
    Gomez.

    Robertson
    Milner,
    Moreno

CB's - 3 pretty good ones. We could use a big buy here. Van Dyke wants to come and we have itchy cash pockets, so I'm still hopeful.

    Mids
    Can
    Hendo
    Wijnaldum
    lallana
    coutinho
woodburn to be given his big chance to efect games
Milner (can take on that Lucas sub role effectively)
(Firmino can take a turn in here too

could use one more good body, but it's not a bad pack that

    Mane
    Salah
    Firmino
    Sturridge
    Solanke
    Origi

There's a core squzd of 23 "at the level we need" players... and we have a couple of unproven possibilities in the wings.
Of course we can finish storng in the main competitions with this group (barring bad injuries).
Definitely veer away form the league cup though. I would lay would play Woodbuirn and 6 or 7 youths in that damn thing....

The fullbacks have certainly been upgraded but seeing Lovren or Klavan in the starting 11 isn't gonna get you top 4 this season. Gomez is a big question mark if he can break into the 11 but the bar is ever so low. He didn't play a match last season and I'm not sure he'll hold up this one. He did look good against CP though.

I don't think we will miss out on a top 4 finish due to our CB, i'm more concerned about our CM options making us miss out. They are simply unable to dictate play, specially if Lallana and Phil are not in the side. A Klopp team will always concede goals, and Watford is proof of that. My view is that it's a more structural Klopp team problem, rather than and individual one at the back.

VD would be an upgrade, specially with his distribution of the ball. But it won't solve our problems in set pieces.

I don't get the weird psychological relevance that is afoot in the minds of many.

Smalling, Phil Jones and Daley Blind can apparently secure the premisership defensively, but Matip, Lovgren and Klavan can't??

Agree with this. We can use another first team CB, ideally a defensive leader but our biggest issues continue in MF. Definitely needs strengthening.

Even with the loss of Torres and the disastrous signing of Carroll, that can't possibly be our worst window. That's when we acquired Suarez.

right on, zaq. I sometimes think all our defenders need is to have a couple of backs-to-the-wall defensive-battle games where they come out successful. their confidence is incredibly fragile and that leads to mental errors. frequently the home support sounds like they're expecting them to eff up as well - understandable yes, but doesn't bloody help.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insists everything is fine between him and Philippe Coutinho

Klopp insists his relationship with the Brazilian has not been affected by his transfer request

Jurgen Klopp has insisted that he will “100 per cent” welcome Philippe Coutinho back into the fold at Liverpool despite the Brazilian’s agitation to leave Anfield.

Following a strongly-worded club statement on the eve of the Premier League season insisting that Coutinho would not be sold, the 25-year-old attempt to force through a move to Barcelona by handing in a transfer request.

Liverpool rejected the request, along with three offers for the player from Catalunya that peaked at £114m inclusive of add-ons, and have maintained a consistent stance that Coutinho would not be allowed to leave this summer.

Yet klopp wanted to spend in excess of 140 mill on two players that most definitely would have been first team starters? Last season proved the squad needed reinforcements as injuries /suspensions / internationals always have a detrimental effect at the key stages

On paper squad looks very good but in reality there are still question marks next to half a dozen of them for the whole season

Barca cunts supposedly about to make a 4th bid on the eve of another big game for us - same antics as before.

This bid purports to be 138m with 101 upnfront.

Source is the S*n - but others are running with it.

Barca is a completely detestable club.

Hope the owners say no again.

    You gotta be kidding.

I used to despise Real Madrid. I still do, but I despise Barca more.

We all complain about the defense especially on set pieces but I read an Interesting article which said we were 9th in goals allowed and 5th in chances given last year on corners. Not great but not as bad as it seemed

Agreed 110%. I use to enjoy watching Barca on the side and was entertained as they won everything. Now I hope they rot.

What's wrong with 138m? That's amazing, I'd take it and shore up defece plus sign Draxler/CAM if I were Klopp.

He already has 140 million in funds (keita/Vvd bids) yet here we are.....at this late stage, it would be panic buys to some extent

More nonsense from souness.....Liverpool struggle to sign primary targets so why let a key player leave without a true replacement

Once the 101 mill cash is banked(reported offer is 135 with addons), the prices of players will rise further.....selling coutinho for 90mill does not really make that much of a difference short term so why get excited for 130

Which brings me back to zonal marking and why Firmino is our man in the center in front of goal on CK's?

Not saying I fully understand zonal marking but using a short striker in the middle makes no sense to me.
