The progress this stadium has made in a relatively short time is amazing. I never doubted they'd make start of the season, but I'm still blown away.
A look at @BancStadium from this week's #TuesdayTours pic.twitter.com/BDQFuQ4Rq9— LAFC (@LAFC) August 15, 2017 Today's update.
I heard LAFC has 18k season ticket deposits. So Why build a 22k stadium? Wouldn't 25k be more the norm for MLS these days.
The stadium is easily expandable (relatively.) Start a little smaller, create a buzz,a demand, and a season ticket waiting list, then expand. Certainly worked for Portland. Also, those are just deposits, who knows how many will actually end up being season ticket holders.
LAFC isn't going to expand. The 22k was mutually agreed on by the team and the then LA Coliseum Commission. They got fast track permits partially because of the 22k. If they ever want to expand they'd have to get OK'd by dozens of different groups including the city and USC.
Which is likely easier to do once the stadium is up and running. Probably easier still if LA hosts Olympic events in said stadium. james
With an updated Coliseum next door, what would keep LAFC from using it on a special occasions? Why not a 4th of July game = plenty of new fans could attend that you could market too , and others could simply come to Expo Park and watch the show. Maybe as a reach out to the nearby community. Or maybe if they made the finals of Champions League or some kind of double-hitter- MLS Game and a second game of some kind. I realize they want to maximize their stadium, but I wonder if they have had any conversations about the use of the Coliseum? Or how about a real Classico- LAFC vs LAG? 1/2 the stadium for each team's fans. If they play each other 3 times in a season, each could have a game at home and play the 3rd game at the Coliseum. 45,000 fans for each team would be cool.
LAFC will not play any home games until their stadium is finished. I believe they will arrange with MLS to play all home games until their stadium opening game.
There are almost 7 months until the season starts. I can't imagine more than one or two matches that are missed in March/April. Is there an opening ETA? james
