Kai Koreniuk at AZ Alkmaar

Discussion in 'Yanks Abroad Academy' started by Dave Marino-Nachison, Oct 31, 2013.

  1. AZ managing director Robert Eenhoorn mentioned as the prime target for the soon vacant post at Feyenoord as Gudde has anounced his retirement from that post in November 2017.

    Little known fact about Robert:
"Eenhoorn then set up the first baseball academy in Europe, the Unicorns academy (Eenhoorn is Dutch for unicorn). The baseball academy model has been duplicated in other European countries and has led to a significant increase in the number of European players signing with MLB clubs".

Also, he and Finkle are the same person. And vice versa.

He's got pretty good speed. How often did he play on the wing for Vitesse? Not sure I'm a huge fan seeing him 80 yards from goal.

  8. 80 yards? Is he playing wing back? 80 yards=73.2 meters

Might have been after a corner or free kick.

Yeah @LandonDonovan2018 he's got great speed, one of the ingredients of him scoring so well. He has played mostly left wing at Vitesse, but he makes a mean striker as well. At the Dutch National team U18 he was a striker, and made top scorer for U18 that year. Excited to see how he is going to develop this year.
Don't know why he is way back at the other side of the field, probably assisting in defense, not sure.

why's he still playing for the reserves? his goals and performances last year should show he's good enough to start for AZ

AZ's striker scored 16 goals last season. Kai is ready to jump ahead of him? And he played for Vitesse last year, not AZ.

  20. AZ attack:
    Right wing-----------striker--------left wing
    Jahanbakhsh 7, Weghorst 6,5, Stengs (-) (Dos Santos 6,5).
Stengs is extremely good at 18 year old and performed excellent end of the season in the first team. He single handed demolished FC Groningen. That's why Kai doesnot appear in the line up.Unfortunately for Stengs he seriously injured his knee in the first few minutes and is out for the season and in the States for treatment. I guess with the same bloke that operated van Nistelrooij.
Dos Santos is an excellent player too, so it remains a question whether Kai will see first team play.
Jahanbakhsh will only be replaced after he's transferred.

Is 16 a lot? in a league where some score 30-35.

You're right. But I'd imagine playing so well in the reserves should show he might be ready to compete in the Eredivisie.

  22. It's just in the foreign imagination that those numbers pop up as if they are the common scoresheet of the strikers over here. Just to put it into perspective, the last season top scorer made 21 goals, being part of the best attack fed by the best midfield of the Dutch league, Feyenoord. Feyenoord is also among the top twenty of the clubs in the comparison with the big 5 leagues in efficiency in goal scoring last season.
AZ has one of the Eredivisie's best attacks and also a youth academy bristling with talents. Just being good at Young Vitesse isnot a free pass into any Eredivisie team.
VVV has now hammered 2 eredivisie teams in 2 matches and today the strike force of VVV against FC Twente produced a fantastic goal. It wasnot without reason that Zelalem had trouble getting in. The same goes for Kai. To get in the attack of one of the top 6 Eredivisie teams as a young kid you have to bring something special to the table. Stengs is such a player, by taking his place in the team by storm.
