    Good thread.

Unanimous decision has to go to Gio Dos Santos. We were a man down with him on the pitch. Moving to the MLS has its consequences. I'll let Giovinco be the example:

Italy coach Giampiero Ventura has explained why he didn't pick Toronto FC star Sebastian Giovinco for the upcoming World Cup Qualifying matches, saying that "he plays in a league that doesn't count for much."

I believed in Gio. He always stepped it up for the national team. But the cold reality is Gio was living off these two merits.

Seems like eons ago...I much rather see the likes of Pulido, Pizzaro, or Pineda get the opportunity before Gio.

While we're at it here's a list of players I don't want to see in Russia next year:

Rafa Marquez - he can come as an assistant but not as a player
Peralta - Mexico always struggles in the striker category but we have options, Pulido/Zaldivar

We need to invest in our future and stop holding onto our past...

On behalf of our shaky defense,

Thankfully Moreno is going to Roma (Serie A is great for defenders). Hope his game continues to improve at a higher level leading up towards the WC.

Salcedo making the move to Frankfurt will be great considering he plays every week. Would be a step up from Fiorentina if he's a starter.

We need Araujo to make that push to Europe this summer..

And Reyes hopefully gets bought out by a spanish team.

    Layun to regain his form..

Not related to defense but it'd be interesting to see a Pizarro in our midfield instead of Guardado.. hope he makes the push to Europe as well

After watching the gold cup group I can safely say that Orbelin will play on Guardado's position.

With pachuca he played as a right interior in a 4-3-3 and would sometimes play as a CAM when playing with a 4-2-3-1.
with Herrera he played as a rb and With potrolol he played as a lb.

With chivas he played as a lw no?

I remember being really excited for Villarreal games when he was there. It seemed like he had really good games more often than not.

    How our hearts broken today...

Layún might not have had a good tournament, but there aren't fullbacks in Mexico. He has to stay whether you like it or not.
My choices: Alanís, who isn't a fullback and who is our sixth best CB at best.
    Marquez, who's just too old.
Gio: sadly MLS messed up his form.
    Osorio, for obvious reasons.
And while they still have some juice, we desperately need to find suitable replacements for Oribe and Guardado.

How many times did Gio play as a winger or support striker in the Confeds? What positions did he play?

Maybe we would not have lost by 3 but the result would have been the same. Look at chile , they fought hard against Germany but you can tel the difference in quality and that "killer" instinct.

Gio, is by far the worst of the bunch that played..... he handicapped the team in every position he held. So many times I saw him walking in close proximity to the ball....dude doesn't have the drive anymore. If he wants to save his career he should migrate back to some mid tier European club or give his luck a go en la Liga MX.

I didnt vote for Alanis because I never expected anything from him, same for Layun. I think Araujo flopped big time.

its always some generic post like this (Mexico wont win the world cup because blah blah blah cliche shit )
we need him as a RB (or a DM) and he'd be an automatic starter for the NT.
