I saw a YouTube video about the Boca vs Tigres fight for Medel in an Argentinean show and expected most of the comments to be Argies complaining but there were just as many comments from Chileans saying that they rather he goes to Boca or saying that it's better for them to stay in Europe that go to Mexico and using Edu Vargas as an example (which is probably where the guy took that complaint from). Of course they would be even madder if Medel left for New York FC or something like that.
The difference is Vargas stayed at a high level for Chile, while Gio was less than average for Mexico. But, the last comment you made is what is the main difference between the moves. Mexicans would've been bummed if JDS went to Mexico, but going to the mls was a huge drop from 5th in Spain.
Actually they pointed to the Confederations cup and him dropping the level of the NT but that is also Mexico's fault. If we hadn't quit and lost 7-0 and allowed for him to score 4 goals, maybe they would realize that he was already declining with the NT before going to Mexico (outside of Panama, he did nothing in that Copa America).
