Surprised no on else has mentioned this but with Jessie and Dempsey being added to Kel and Omar there are now 4 North Texas League players on the National Team for the remainder of the Gold Cup. Don't think that has ever happened before and shows how dominant the Dallas area youth leagues have become.

There are reasons why the top colleges scout the top local leagues.

Even back when I was playing there were local ties to the big soccer schools, Mexican, and European scouts. We all saw them around and heard rumors of who was looking at who.

Omar Gonzales, Kellyn Acosta, and Clint Dempsey all played significant roles in the win for the USMNT in the Gold Cup semifinal against Costa Rica in Arlington. Jesse Gonzales rode the pine but no doubt got to feel that experience in front of his friends and family.

Dempsey scored the usmnt scoring record-tying goal in front of the DFW contingent.

Interesting reading Jesse talk of how Arena made him feel valued while Mexico didn't. Watching their keeper give up a free kick elimination goal that Jesse's big wingspan might have had a chance at for years to come was frankly a bit sweet.
