They are both legit talents who are as good as anything in world football at that age, but I don't blame Sancho for wanting to jump ship because there is far more competition on the wings at Man City then there is for Foden in midfield and if he came to my club Wenger would put him in the first team squad strait away and he would make on the bench sooner rather than later IMO
wouldn't say Foden is more intelligent, just different types of players. Big fan of Foden, more my type of player, but I have to say Sancho is ahead right now, probably the best in Europe after his performance at the euros. Full of tricks but makes it count too, if he gets close to the area he will score or assist. Arsenal would be the best choice for me.
Don't think you can compare Foden and Sancho as both brilliant talents in different positions essentially but for me personally I always love a player like Foden as he's exactly the sort of player we need to be producing. Even though Sancho is a wonderfully gifted player in his own right, however wingers we are never really short of but players like Foden are thin on the ground even though in the youth ranks they are coming through slowly. Look at the seniors, absolutely crying out for a Foden type player big time. My only fear is as he progresses up the England age groups, how will managers like Boothroyd or Downing use him as they seem to not like creative number 10 type players bizarrely, if you consider how little playing time Edwards and Grealish received in their respective age groups it makes me slightly concerned. Edit: Actually just remembered that Downing used Mount in that number 10 role so that was probably a bit unfair of me but still have those concerns going forward.
Speaking of Foden .@aguerosergiokun's got all the love for @PhilFoden! 💙 #cityontour pic.twitter.com/f1EENHiGFn— Manchester City (@ManCity) July 21, 2017
Think there's a good chance Richards will go to the World Cup but I wonder about Foden going after his debut the other night. Really hoping Pep has the courage bed him into the first team at least giving him quite a bit of playing time be it from the bench when winning games, occasionally starting and played in all Cup games. Maybe it's wishful thinking but after the performance the other night I really can't see how Pep wouldn't use him.
Especially with his words post match along the lines of I haven't seen anything like that in a long time. Richards can easily take the position Reo Griffiths had.
It would be a poor show if City didn't send Foden to the World Cup. But if he doesn't go they could always call up Liverpool's Curtis Jones. And of course, Gomes of Man U is back.
Pep said this after the game - While there are no guarantees about Foden cracking the City XI in the short-term, particularly with their summer investments continuing apace, he has already done enough to earn extended exposure to the senior squad. "He'll stay training with us and maybe in the season stay with us," added Guardiola. Doesn't sound like he'll be rushed into their squad and that could mean he goes to the WC. Then in 2018 if he is still impressing he might be brought in for some of their senior games.
Matt O'Riley is out in Germany with the Fulham first team and came off the bench to assist the equaliser.
Steven Sessegnon scored for their u23s today too. Will be interesting to see how far off he is of joining his bro in the first team.
Curtis jones Liverpool, Steven Sessegnon Fulham, Taylor Richards Man City, Matt O'Riley Fulham, Nya Kirby Crystal Palace, Angel Gomes Manu, players who missed out for the Euros who could feature at the World Cup.
Could make a really strong XI actually, only including players who were capped last season. Thomas McGill (went with the squad as cover but wasn't officially in it) Steven Sessegnon Rob Strachan Marcel Lavinier Kane Wilson Matt O'Riley Nya Kirby Angel Gomes Curtis Jones Taylor Richards Morgan Gibbs-White Subs: Ian Carlo Poveda, Rekeem Harper, Brooklyn Lyons-Foster, Oliver Skipp, Jamie Soule, Stephen Walker
He played on the right in a 4231 but drifted inside a lot. Looked confident despite not seeing a lot of the ball.
crap, thought Pochetinho only played Onomah out of position. Quite painful to watch Onoma play there, and TOB is even less of a right midfielder.
foden looks a special talent, who could actually get first team football soon. its very exciting be a city fan atm especially with young players. tommy doyle and phil foden would be brilliant to see develop into first teamers.
City have a keen eye for the best youngsters in the country. Unfortunately they'll more than likely purchase a foreign player for 50 million.
I would say that he's not a natural winger but that he can make a better fist of it than Onomah if that's the only way he can get senior experience early on. Could help him to gain the trust of his club manager as a viable first-team option. I do hope he'll move back into midfield in due course though, and stay there for England - which is likely, given the competition further forward.
Spurs don't really use wingers anyway. The three that play behind Kane are usually Eriksen, Alli and Son.
