People are banking on McGregor being able to land that ONE shot to Mayweather that will turn out the lights. McGregor has a very unpredictable style and he outboxes all of his opponents in MMA. This is a far different animal, however. But there are plenty of people who will end up buying this PPV that believe that McGregor's the guy to land something on Money.
My issue is if 49 other pro boxers, who box for a living, couldn't tag Mayweather, why is McGregor going to be the guy to do it? That's not a slight on McGregor though; I think McGregor would decimate Floyd in an MMA match, but this is Mayweaher's home turf, and he's never lost.
McGregor is unorthodox in his methods due to his MMA training. It's mostly hype, but that's the reasoning behind it.
Plus what will Americans watch instead ? Baseball ? Preseason NFL ? Mcgregor's personality is the whole reason. In a country where mike Vick is some sort of super villain race traitor for suggesting a grown ass man get a haircut Floyd and Connor are a breath of fresh air. The ratings and money speaks for itself.
I've seen people even rip the build-up (aka trash talk) for this fight. They say it promotes racism, misogyny, etc....
Yea, Preseason needs to start, We were running out of stuff to talk about on the podcast. I didn't want to get into the division predictions this early.
The fact that this has been a pretty quiet offseason in which players have done good to lay low doesn't help probably.
You're telling me you don't want to talk about how Kaep still doesn't have a team or how a recent study showed pretty much every player that donated their brain had CTE? Lol. Did you have a rant about Lucky Whitehead?
I was listening to local sport talk radio on the drive in this morning and the other host with Cooley was talking about if we achieve a third winning season in a row (last year wasn't really, but "technically" it was), how people around the league will view that we are turning our culture to a culture of winning. The host then proceeded to name the Atlanta Falcons as a model example. After one season? The real NFC models would be the Packers and Seahawks. The Seahawks did not what winning was until they reached the Super Bowl vs the Steelers and then they landed Pete Carroll. They are a model of how to turn things around. There is also the Cardinals, to a lesser degree. Sure, they haven't won a SB, but they used to be the laughing stock of the league 15 years ago and now when you play them, you know you have to bring it to get a win.
Speaking of stuff to talk about, I have few questions for your Q&A podcast, no need to take all of them or any of them: 1. Who is the better football team; the Detroit Lions or the Baltimore Ravens? 2. Heading into the season, who are some of the teams you are most looking forward to watching? 3. What steps do you think the NBA needs to take to improve their product? 4. (This is moreso directed to you than Giff, unless Giff follows the beautiful game) Who do you thimk will win the Premier League next season?
As a Lions fan it makes me slightly more optimistic to know that Zimmer will not be calling plays for the Vikings defence next year.
Yea lol. Plus we all have to look at what George Edwards did in buffalo. I never seen a worse coached defense in my life during his time in buffalo. Lombardi status , Edwards has been my barometer for lowly dcs.
So im in a jags group on Facebook posting my video reaction to bortles 5int practice and I see the group was pretty much devolved into a full out race war over if they should sign kaepernick... shits sad. I think the social engineering of sports to promote racial unity and social harmony has passed. And I see so many cringe emotional arguements everyday about it led by the media. They've been having fun with it. Pro football talk literally runs two articles a day.
Jeez... Kaepernick isn't even close to good enough to deserve this attention and outrage both ways... My goodness,, dude got benched by Blaine freaking Gabbert. The moment that happens is the moment you're probably not seeing another job in the NFL. Didn't Kaepernick himself say he didn't even want another NFL job, essentially retiring? Could've sworn I saw something to that effect.
Yet that isn't real evidence cause Collin was hurt lol. When in reality he was on the field to start training camp last year for the 49ers. And he called cops slave patrols last week but haven't heard of him retiring. Jamele hill from espn was on a few days ago backing him up for the slave patrol remark lol. And the media loves him to death. I'll let you decide why , you probably won't like the conclusion.
Brendan Albert retires (probably due to the CTE news and jokingly, Bortles 5 INT day lol) and the Dolphins basically got Julius Thomas for free as a result.
That's just wow... So he won't protest at the anthem anymore but he will continue to take potshots at the issue? That's a strange combo if I ever saw one. Looks like we'll see what Cam Robinson's got at LT. Probably has a better chance at guard, but if he cleans up his lazy moments with his footwork, I think he's going to be fine. Love his potential as a runblocker.
This morning I had to listen to Redskins fans calling into Cooley's show to say how they'd take Kirk Cousins over Matt Stafford....
