I noticed at the start of this season, that Christie Rampone, is now going back to her maiden name of Pearce? Does anyone know if she's now separated or divorced from her husband, or is this just to make it easier for announcers or something?

Well it's certainly not easier for announcers - after years and years of calling her Rampone, that's how most of them called her for this earlier part of the season even though she was wearing Pearce on her back.

There are two main theories out there, one being marital trouble and the other being nostalgia. Considering she hasn't bothered changing her social media handles, (and she has been posting on Twitter a few times since the season started,) I'm inclined to lean toward the latter: that she just wants to end her playing career with the same name she started it with.

She is open in this article that she is now divorced and changed her name because of it:

FFT: The schedule you've kept the past 20 years has been grueling, with so much travel, so many games, so much time away from home. Do you have any regrets, in terms of how it impacted your marriage and might have contributed to your divorce?

CP: Not at all. I was playing a couple years before even meeting my ex-husband, and, obviously, the marriage, just the travel and the way we both handled it, it was tough. But we didn't realize it until I came home and retired [from the national team] and realized that maybe we weren't the best fit and the best environment for the kids.

So we went our separate ways, and the kids are adjusting, and I'm still doing my thing, doing my career, and the kids are still following [on the road] when they can, but I don't regret any of it and how it went down.

Since she was silent for a while about the question of whether she was or was not divorced, can we expect her to be similarly silent for a while about the question of whether she is or is not retired? I know that she has said that this was going to be her last season, but that was months ago and I think it was to just one media outlet.

Hmm good question... She retired from the USWNT pretty immediately after the 2015WWC, so if she was going to retire from club play as well I would think she'd announce it quickly. But i misinterpreted things earlier this year so *shrugs*.

I thought she was finished but today's announcement.

Tinton Falls, N.J. (Oct. 23, 2017) – Sky Blue FC of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) announced today that it has exercised player options on nine players, while also extending new contract offers to an additional nine players.

Sky Blue FC will be exercising player options on defenders Cassidy Benintente, Mandy Freeman, Kayla Mills and Christie Pearce; midfielders Daphne Corboz, Sarah Killion and Madison Tiernan; and forwards Sam Kerr and McKenzie Meehan.

I just noticed the 2018 Sky Blue roster listed on the team website. I assumed that she would be on it, considering that they exercised her option. To my surprise, she is not there.
