Even if you end up losing, I do think a good PK taker should at most go 3rd to make sure you take a PK. That's just playing the odds.

Commentator mentioned the possibility of penalties being changed, so the 1st team shoots 1st, 2nd team 2nd and 3rd, 1st team 4th and 5th and so on. Therefore one team doesn't hold the advantage.

Not sure if it helps but I wouldn't mind seeing it.

I didn't watch but if three guys missed their penalties for Portugal and Ronaldo did not get a chance to go, then me thinks they still would have lost even if Ronaldo went first and scored.
Time to turn the page. Maybe concentrate on the WC now - they have good players.

If Ronaldo relieves some pressure by taking responsibility and scoring the first, perhaps Quaresma doesn't walk up to the spot with pee dripping down his legs. It's really not that hard to understand.

yeah... the "what ifs" discussed in a scenario where THREE players missed their penalties should really have nothing to do with ronaldo... I personally like him taking the last kick of the game. made the eleventh CL league that much more memorablke for me... Besides... Quaresma, Moutinho and Nani, should be able to score a frikkin penalty kick without seeing how CR7 does it.

And by the way I just saw the replay and Chile was robbed of a clear penalty on the 112 min.
No point in crying about this really.

Sometimes it's just not your night... It takes balls to agree to take the penalty.

Ronaldo should of went first but at the end of the day u cant expect 3 portugal players to go up and take such embarrassing penaltys like that . Nanis one was just as pathetic as you can get him and Quaresmas cameos were disgraceful, didnt put in one bit of effort .

Portugal are so poor creatively and to many limited players getting games. Gomes again today was just a waste of time . There whole game plan is for ronaldo to score out of one limited service he gets and bore the other team to death for 1-0 or draw.

Ronaldo did show some very good playmaking skills in this tourny tho.

None of them looked all that tired to me. Bernardo struggles to handle 90 minutes in such intense matches, but he was the only forward showing any kind of creativity or ability to pass through players and cause trouble. He should've been subbed later in the game.

What also hurt us alot was Guerreiro being injured, because Eliseu is a serious candidate for worst player in NT history.

Corruption seems pretty rampant in Portuguese football. I know Sporting supporters have complained about biased refs for years now.

It wouldn't have mattered if Ronaldo shot first or not. Quaresma and Moutinho were shitting themselves on the way up to the pk spot, you could see it on their faces.

Pathetic pks, but in fairness to Nani that's the first time I have ever seen him miss.

Hopefully all 3 players won't be on WC squad a year from now.

If Ronaldo scores the first and Vidal also scores Chile's first then by the time Quaresma takes the second kick it's effectively back to square one. It's a penalty shootout, if a player can't hold his nerves it's their fault and no one else's.

I'd like to see Bruno Fernandes and Bruma incorporated into the squad and Nani and Moutinho out. I think Ronaldo will have some pull to keep Quaresma around for the WC.

Problem is that opening loss against the Swiss complicated things and not much time to experiment in qualification. Diamond 442 with William as anchor, Adrien/Joao Mario doing the dirty work at CM with Bernardo ahead pulling the strings I think would be the strongest lineup.

I would agree but you get no width from your FBs. Cristiano is always having to go wide and provide service.

It's kind of ironic because Andre Silva is a very poor man's Bale and Bernardo is a very poor man's Isco. Portugal should play exactly the way Madrid's Zidane plays..... they just have no quality in attack at FB.

Seems I've been living under a rock. This scandal seems humongous, and I feel like it's not getting enough play in the media.
Yeah in this scenario it doesn't matter if he went first or last or in the middle. If one guy had missed, maybe. But 3 guys, and one penalty more embarrassing than the other.

Moutinho missed the PK in 2012. He did not want to take in 2016. I did not think he should take a pk last night.

Yes and he got injured. They also have Cancelo who attacks well as a RB.

Doesn't matter if they aren't playing.

Yeah without Guerreiro or Coentrao going forward there's no width or threat on the left side. Cedric couldn't get a cross in for his life, otherwise he wasn't that bad. I agree Santos should play closer to Zidane's 442 and I think that's what it will look like if everyone is healthy.

Cut ties with dead weight already, too much young talent ready to step up. One positive out of this tournament was that Bernardo surely secured himself a starting spot.
