Still not cap-tied. This is just a friendly, so he will remain eligible should he get US citizenship. He is slated to be eligible for US citizenship sometime this year.
I still think we should close until it's actually potential option but I guess if we close someone might just start out of curiosity. I'm actually a big fan of his, but don't see it happening anytime soon, especially given his reported practice habits.
Did the rules change? I thought one had to be a citizen of another country prior to any cap to be eligible for a one time switch.
No, but this isn't a "one time switch situation. That applies to when a player has a *competitive* youth cap. If it were a competitive youth cap, he must have held the citizenship to which he wishes to switch. But, as Poku never had a youth cap for Ghana, that doesn't apply at all. As long as you are never provisionally cap-tied (which only happens because of youth competitions), you are not covered by the "one-time switch" rules. He is free to switch to another national team as long as all he plays are friendlies.
That was the rumor since both Kreis and Vieira weren't giving him tons of minutes and Vieira eventually shipped him. In Kreis's case it was especially frustrating because Grabavoy and Ballouchi were taking minutes ahead of him and he was the only one able to take people off the dribble and he was a much bigger threat to score than those two.
Poku scored the game winner tonight against Atlanta United's b-team in the Open Cup. I hope Bruce thanks Ghana's manager afterward for giving him this audition to join the US National Team if he impresses. We really were hurting for attacking mid options (when beneficial to play) outside Pulisic. Too bad he couldn't have been at the Gold Cup, but all is well that ends well.
