Däbritz (like many Bayern players) actually had a poor season though, so it's hard to argue with her current lowered status within Jones national team; clearly a quality player, her role for club and country has been completely undefined all throughout 2016/17. Why would they exit in the quarter finals though....? It's the same before for every tournament... Hansen isn't saying anything every other player and coach haven't been saying for close to two decades. I mean opposing fans, players, and coaches, will almost come across belligerent in their tone whenever it comes to talking down Germany's prospects prior every age group and senior tournament lol.
Because with Blässe/Henning/Peter/Kerschowski I feel like every team has a fair chance to beat Germany, so wouldn't surprise me if they got knocked out in the quarter final. I've seen all of their games this year, and there's a lot of mistakes going on in that backline. I'm a fan of Germany, so it's not like I want them to go out so early I'm looking forward to the game against Brazil thought, gonna be a good test for them. The day after the match Jones gonna pick her final squad. I hope Elsig makes it
And when was the last time Germany's entire pre tournament defense wasn't a mess at the senior level..? After Germany's 07 WC win, the senior teams defense has been nothing but a tragic mess to hold them back from ever reaching their full potential at every tournament, and yet they've still somehow managed to produce big tournament wins, and maintain a defensive record the envy of many a rival. Just look at the last Euro team (the WORST defense) and then remember how they managed to win the tournament only conceding 1 goal the entire tournament lol. The fact Germany's defense stinks has long been a huge positive for every rival coming into each and every tournament for the past decade, and yet Germany's biggest losses during tournament play have come been 2 close knock out round exits to the eventual tournament winners at consecutive world cups. The big question will be if Jones takes 8 or 7 defenders now, with this probably coming down to the correct assessment of Goeßling's fitness, and possibly finally accepting that Henning's time with the national team over too. So does Goeßling start vs Brazil to prove her continued relevance to this team...? And after failing to look competent during a run of 9 games, does Jones finally drop Blässe - Peter - Henning - Kerschowski, so Maier - Hendrich - Elsig - Simon get a chance to prove their future relevance to this team...?
I agree that Germany's defense have been shaky the last tournaments, yet they won Euro 13 and Olympics 16 lol - how can it be that bad then? Like I agree that the Bartusiak/Krahn combo wasn't world class, but I don't think Germany had the worst defense in Euro 13. I think Jones might only use Gössling as a sub in the Euro's like Neid did in the Olympics.
LOL, this said about a team who's best defensive player throughout Euro '13 was consistently Nadine Angerer. Yes, I'm harsh on the likes of Krahn - Bartusiak - Henning - Peter, but when EVERYBODY highlights and targets the German CB's as an obvious weak point, you would hope it was finally addressed by senior coaches, who've all witnessed a succession of U-19/20 cycles producing impressive CB options to try and groom. I typically rate Goeßling as one of the women's games top players whenever she's fit, but if she's not able to complete 90 mins, she really shouldn't be going to the Euro's. Should Elsig really be competing for a Euro's ticket alongside one player who's spent more time on her crutches than a training field this season, or somebody who no better than a glorified training marker cone for a high profile club side that doesn't even need her on match days...?
I think Gössling will be a part of the Euro squad and used as a sub. Lol true, I would become mad if Gössling and Henning are in the final squad and not Elsig, that scenario would've been so hilarious lol, Elsig is Germany's best defender she just needs more time on the pitch with the NT kit to prove herself for Jones
Due to her being Germany's best DM/CM prior to the run of injuries, at least Goeßling's got the benefit of doubt on her side if anybody brings up the idea of her being finished with the wnt. However, what has Henning done at club level, or her 9 games with the wnt, to validate the platform of favoritism she's currently receiving..? 9 games for Jones wnt, Henning's performance level has swung between constantly panicked and predictably terrible every time she's seen the field. And for all of the kudos she's gained for simply being a training cone marker with Lyon, I can't see what she's done at club level for years now to truly suggest she a credible first choice option in a CB talent pool featuring Hendrich - Demann - Elsig. Even if Jones leaves behind Elsig, names like Maier - Demann - Simon - Hendrich shouldn't have been second choice defenders behind Henning - Peter - Kerschowski - Blässe for so long; and this with Jones still not appearing to know who her DM is going to be either...
Cant wait for the Brazil game. Lineup will tell a lot about who got the best chances for starting in Euro... fingers are crossed Josi will be in it
In Jones' squad, who's playing DM in their club besides Gössling actually? o.o Do you think Simon's gonna make it?
Maro is the best AM in the world and should play there where she'll be a bigger threat to score goals as well
Anyway if Steffi actually decides to play Maro as DM, Germany have some very good AM in Magull and Dalmann
Yes and yes. Although both are more or less the same player type. Probably we get to see Däbritz aside one of them
Germany have a very strong midfield. Lots of good players. Where do you think Popp will play? I hope Huth's gonna play, reminds me about Werner
Demann is the only player besides Goeßling who's currently in the national teams player pool having been known for playing DM on a regular basis for their club team, but Doorsoun, Hendrich (excellent DM for the 2012 U-19/20 team), Elsig, and now Popp, all have varying levels of experience playing DM roles too, so... Seeing how inferior Henning - Peter look competently defending anything with speed, I'd rather some form of a solid defensive presence take hold in the center, allowing an offensively gifted Marozsan to roam free as a #10 inside the opponents final third of the field. Germany really shouldn't be going through another tournament wasting the success it's produced at the youth level. And witnessing the first wave of DFB youth talent (Mittag - Laudehr - Behringer - Goeßling - Krahn) coming to an end, it's only right that we finally see what many felt the next golden generation (Popp - Marozsan - Kemme - Huth - Maier etc...) taking the prominent roles they've long deserved. If your Jones, now's the time to build your team around the 2010-12 generation. She better lol.... Simon's the most technically gifted of all the FB options, having produced the best overall form of any German FB during the club season. Blässe -- Hendrich -- Elsig -- Simon -------------------- Popp ----------------- So I would really like to see this defensive unit start vs Brazil, as the last 9 games have done nothing to validate Blässe - Peter - Henning - Kerschowski as a truly credible 1st choice back four.
