Looking to me, right now, like the Red Stars and the Thorns are the quality teams, with NC a little behind. I love the Red Stars/Thorns competition!
I believe it was a couple days before this when he (Schweinsteiger) and two other Fire players came over to help the keepers by taking shots on them- told not to hold anything back, which they didn't after the first round! All 3 keepers were able to save shots which must have really boosted their confidence. Really great to hear about men players mixing it up with the women's teams. Kudos to him and the other players.
Oh, ok. I had hoped that she had recovered from that in Frankfurt already. Hope she will be ok for next week, after the FIFA international window for friendly matches.
Equalizer article on Red Stars' finding a home at Toyota Park: http://equalizersoccer.com/2017/06/13/red-stars-right-at-home-at-toyota-park/ Highlights: --Team this season now has their own locker room and meeting room plus access to training facilities. Last year, they only had access to the field on game days and trained off-site. --Decision to move to Toyota Park was after visiting "'every venue' in the city searching for the right fit." The decision was based on professionalism, fan experience, and ability to attract and keep sponsors. --"The players and Whisler know that the attendance numbers so far this season at Toyota Park have been low, but the team is targeting improved fan support in the coming weeks."
If anyone knows the scoop, please let me know what is going on with Yuki Nagasato, the Red Stars new Japaneses signee? I now read on a Twitter post that she is back in Japan? What is going on? Someone please explain!
I've been said that apparently she's still recovering from an injury she picked up when playing in Frankfurt, so maybe she used the international friendlies' window to get back in Japan for a while. Apart from that, I don't know anything more. Edit: confirmed by NWSL website.
Where is Arin Gilliland? She was is not on any injury report. She was not on the bench one way or another yesterday. But on one of the Twitter reads fro one of the bloggers I read that she is out with an excused absence. What's going on, is she OK and when will she be back?
Another interesting tidbit that many may have not heard or realized is, Bonny Young who was the Red Stars first Assistant the last couple of years including beginning of this year, and after not being seen on the Red Stars bench over the last few games (by me anyway), all of a sudden appeared yesterday on the Spirit bench. I didn't read anything about a move from the Red Stars to Washington Spirit in any blog or publication. Interesting.

So she will miss tonight's game. She is the engine in the middle for the Red Stars. It will be interesting how Rory deals with this.

Back from my Orlando trip and what a game last Saturday in Orlando. There were other fans who flew in from Chicago to watch this one and we were kind of wondering why Short and Gilliland started on the bench. I said, I bet they will go in when Alex Morgan goes in and that's exactly what happened. An hour or so before the game started the skies opened up and a monsoon poured over the Orlando area. The typical mid-summer rains in Central Florida where it rains Biblically for an hour or so, then goes away. The field was wet and the ball hard to control for much of the game but the Red Stars defense held tight with Gordon and Comeau on the outside and Naughton and Johnson in the middle. Naughton is becoming a very good Center Back and I hope one day she gets a call up to the USWNT camp. Marta did her juking and fancy footwork but the Red Stars defenders did not bite. As soon as Morgan came in in the second half, just like I thought, Dames puts Casey Short in and right away she makes an impact on the game by creating the PK that Press put in. The last few seconds were nail biting as Orlando nearly scores, but the Red Stars have the USWNT starting goalkeeper on their side. Red Stars and Pride play two more games this season and I can't wait to watch them.

Big game Saturday at Toyota Park between the Red Stars and Orlando Pride. I hope there is a good crowd. I've been trying to spread the word.
