So they r having Morales coach the team for the remainder of 2017. Not seeing the logic behind this.
    1. Morales has been with the team since March 2017 so if he was hired based on what he did from then until the day Waldrum was fired then the FO should have just appointed him immediately and given him until the end of the season to honor their faith.
    2. If Morales was hired based one week as coach and a loss to the Spirit who most people considered worse than the Dash then u really have to wonder what the FO was thinking.
    3. Ive seen it suggested that the Dash r waiting for some coach they want to become available. Well, this seems the time of year coaches coming off a winter season would be available. If they r looking at a college coach, waiting till the NCAA season is over means a December hire and being behind the rest of the league building the roster for 2018. About the only notable group of coaches currently busy r the ones preparing for Euros and they would be a bit expensive for the Dash.
    4. There is also the problem of Waldrum being GM. I doubt they r making Morales GM as well so this likely means there will be few changes to the roster this year and Morales will go with the team he has.

Maybe they do it for monetary reason but that alone does not make sense.
Morales will have to do things differently. If he won't , they might as well had kept Waldrum.

The only thing that makes sense to me is the Dash feel like they r appeasing Lloyd in some way. Why else set a date of Lloyds first match back as the drop dead date on their search? And ironically, I don't think Lloyd cares who the Dash coach is as long as her playing time isn't effected.

Maybe her trainer can become the coach. Only person she seems to listen to

Galanis? Remember he coached the ATL Beat in WPS... Not sure HOU wants that record. Granted, the current HOU squad is definitely better than what ATL had back then, but still...

I actually forgot about that since I didn't follow WPS and only remember reading about it recently (besides totally being in jest)

The Dash glamour girl, Melissa Henderson has officially retired. The NWSL was just a step above her capabilities, but could of played on most leagues around, but little money in the woso world shows the lack of opportunities after college for most graduates.

    here's to you, Melissa!

Lloyd basically just insulted all of the Dash's coaching staff and players and this is coming from a player who just lumbers around on the pitch and let other players play defense for her.

How did you like the 4-4-2 the Dash used against Orlando last game?

So far, I like coach Morales, after 2 losses, he has lead the team to 2 wins and a draw.
I don't think it's a coincidence that successes came after he switched to the 4-4-2.
    1) I think the players saved much energy in defense so they have more gas in their tanks toward the end of the game. Case in point, Rachel Daly , she was still sprinting like crazy at the end.
    2) Speaking of Daly, putting her back on forward was an easy call, yet it still should be scored at a positive.
    3) I think the player's movement and organization has become better in the 4-4-2. They had an occasional lapse when a forward dropped too far back or a wide mid did not keep her width but
they have done quite well for the most part and getting better all the time. I think most if not all players have played in this system all through their lives so dropping back into defense and moving forward into the attack seem more natural and easier. Not to mention that they can make the transition without wasting a lot of energy.

    4) Putting Van Wyk back on the field. I think she is a little better than Roccaro in term of playing it more safely. She is also willing to make the big tackle and not let the forwards bully her.

    5) Know how to preserve a lead. We were up 2-1 against KC. and at the 76' mark, Morales switched to a 4-2-3-1 with 2 defensive mid fielders parking right in front of the back line. I think they saved us a few times toward the end.

    6) Cami Privett. I didn't like how she played defensive mid at the beginning of the game. She was too far forward and left a big gap behind her. Also one time, both players on the right side of the defense was pulled upfield and Privett did not drop to fill their space. We were lucky KC did not take advantage. At the 1st half water break, the assistant coach talked to her, I had no idea what was said but after that, Privette dropped back about 5 yards and protected the back line better. She started to win some balls after that. Kudos for that.

    7) Amber Brooks. What else can be said about her? She has been the Dash's best def mid in 4 years and she is now our best center back. Solid.

    8) Lloyd, I criticized her many many times in the past for not playing defense. Now I have to give her credit for the past couple games. I have not seen she played defense like that since ... forever .

getting back Lloyd & finally a 100% Brian does help Morales quite a lot. From 9th to 6th place in just a couple of weeks..........maybe the season is still salvageable?(for play offs that is!)

anybody having problems with this site(Big Soccer) freezing your pc?

The Dash had both Brian and Lloyd when they played Orlando in Houston and got pummeled 4-0 until they scored in the 90' to make it look respectable.

9th to 6th place is just a sneeze away. If they had lost the last game, they would have been in 10th place.

I guess the death knell on the Waldrum philosophy was Daly back to forward and Poliana starting again. Daly grabs two goals and Poliana gets player of the week

here's the Dash latest; looks like they dominated the highlights, but Brooks poor foul gave the Thorns the Equalizer, then 1 minute later Lloyd gets. She did this over in England, and they gave her a 3 game suspension. And welcome to the Gulf Coast's Bi Polar weather, just came from an youth tourney myself; through heavy downpours, flash flooding & severe thunderstorm warnings, nope that don't stop it, the game goes on........

The Houston turnaround is rather remarkable. As I calculate it, the Houston record for the first nine games was 2-7-0. For the last six it has been 4-0-2.

It seems to be an improvement in both offense and especially defense. First nine games: 8 goals scored and 20 goals against. Last six games: 8 goals scored and 3 goals against.

What's the difference? It seems to be partly Carli Lloyd. Since she joined the team Houston has a 4-1-2 record.

Ohai's injury has not had a deleterious impact on Houston. Its record with Ohai was 3-7-0; its record since Ohai's injury is 3-0-2. .Prince has done a good job as sub for Ohai. Also, Daly was moved to forward from the defense she played for several games.

The improvement in defense seems to based on a stable lineup of the defensive 4 for the last 6 games -- as compared to different lineups nearly every game during the earlier part of the season. Levin, Van Wyk, Brooks, and Poliana have started all 6 games in Houston's winning streak. A factor in the improved defense may be that Brooks was moved from midfield to defense earlier in the season.

So, Houston for this winning stretch has had a better offense with Lloyd, Prince, and Daly up front. And a better defense with Levin, Van Wyk, Brooks, and Poliana as a stable back-four.

I havent looked at the midfield to see what factors may account for Houston's improved performance.

I think this is addition by subtraction. Waldrum was guilty of over managing the team. Let's take out Poliana who has been one of Morales' best players. Let's play Daly at right back. Let's play a different back four every match featuring Roccaro at a different position. Morales has just simplified things. He has given everyone their regular role and consistent minutes. It's a compliment to how much talent Waldrum assembled that Morales continues to get results without Ohai, Brian and Lloyd as mainstays.

For those like me who were looking for updates on Dash players:

I saw this from Janine Van Wyck:

    And this from Lydia Williams:

I'm not sure who else of the players stayed in Houston (from other tweets, it seemed some went to Dallas or elsewhere).

I'm not sure who of the posters are local (@DynamoManiac , maybe?), but for those who are, stay safe!

I follow DM on twitter. He is in Houston but he & his family are safe at the moment. I know there are a few others here in Texas but not sure if they're in the immediate area.

If any are inclined to help out, there are some places you can donate money to.
