The Canadian Premier League has received unanimous support to join Canada Soccer. #CANPL— Canada Soccer (@CanadaSoccerEN) May 6, 2017 I suspect they will push hard for a second Canadian spot for the fall entry— Duane Rollins (@24thminute) May 6, 2017
Perhaps all the MLS Clubs should do what TFC does and take the time to explain the importance of the CONCACAF Champions League to their fans. Fans takes it very seriously in Canada and the rest of CONCACAF while it's not always the case in the United States https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10154418323301805
I agree. Here's what the problem might be. When the CONCACAF Champions League had groups of 3, at least 3 of the 4 American clubs (1 American club could be grouped with a Canadian club) would either win their group or be eliminated by a Central American club that Americans fans would never see play in their domestic league. American clubs who advanced to the Quarterfinals rarely beat Liga MX clubs. Fans might like a larger range of possible outcomes better than the formula of winning a group and being eliminated by the first Liga MX club they face, which was rarely in the Final. Many MLS fans might feel that their favorite club never advanced over other good clubs. In addition, not sending your best players to away games tells fans you don't think the CONCACAF Champions League is important. From the perspective of most countries in CONCACAF, some Central American and most Caribbean clubs were playing to avoid big margins of defeat. Some Central American clubs knew they wouldn't win the title but were trying to eliminate clubs from the better leagues Liga MX and MLS. Liga MX clubs knew one of the four of them would probably win the title.
