    It's not so simple

Bale was a massive cash outlay along with Isco and Illarramendi and Madrid spent £53m net that season even AFTER selling Ozil.

The constant acquisition of stars creates a need to generate liquidity. There are not than many players in the Madrid squad who could generate massive cash money.

We saw Di Maria forced out the same way soon after - not because he "failed" (he had an awesome season) but because it had to be someone who could generate a big number.

Ozil preferred to go to Man Utd, so Arsenal's opportunity to acquire Ozil for big money only crystallised on deadline day.

But in any event, to say Ozil didn't perform at Madrid is bizarre when he was leading europe in assist numbers during his time there.

His performance at Madrid was fantastic. There is no doubt about that. But in the last year his performance in the CL was not on par with high expectations. Seeing Barca winning the treble tends to cause them to start pointing fingers and he was a relatively easy one. Your liquidity hypothesis makes sense. But after Madrid sold him, they won 2 CL titles and a La Liga. After selling him, Higuain and di Maria, RM have actually become a lot more efficient.

It reflects the underlying business strategy of churning €€s in order to bring in a procession of stars

Selling di Maria to bring in James was not efficient in a footballing sense, but overall the strategy works for them

I won't be surprised if Bale is sold next

    Slash said it in 1097

But in any event, i think we largely agree that Carlo didn't need a 10 but more a true midfielder - the acquisitions pointed towards a midfield 3

Costa looks to be headed to Juve, and Tolisso is in Munich today for a medical. Should have that deal announced by tomorrow AM.

I don't expect to hear anything concrete about Alexis until after he returns from international duty.

wtf why Bayern signed so many midfielders. Time to let go Costa, Sanches, otherwise it would be a mess next season. Mueller should be worried for his place as well.

with Tolisso scoring and assisting ability, Carlos may go with 4-3-3

    -----------------Levy
    ----Ribery-------------Robben
    -------Thiago---------Tolisso
    ------------------Vidal

    ---Alaba----CB-CB-----Kimmich

When Ribery fits, he'll play, otherwise Gnabry will take the place. Mueller, Rudy, Coman could be the super subs for the rest of the midfield. I hope Carlos will change his approach to be more open, rotate the team more just like Zidane did last season.

wtf Bayern execs are smoking out there ? Bringing home too many redundant players and risk some careers. Mueller will be very hard to find a place in the starting midfield, he can't even replace Levy in the lone striker. I believe time for him and Ribery will be counted by days from now.

Same things could happen to Rudy, Sule...

    ----------Levy
    ---Ribery---------Robben
    -----Thiago--------James
    ---------------Vidal

0 German players up front, so great :D

where can Mueller, Rudy can be used when we have other Tolisso, Coleman, Martinez... There's no chance for youngsters to get promoted to the 1st team, they will be ended up with other teams. Shame !!

It would be suicide to phase out Robben at least considering how many times he saved your asses the past two seasons to scrape out 3 points. With a 10 point gap to end the season two years in a row, those perfromances were critical.

    He turns 34 in january

All well and good if he stays fit and doesn't decline but you wouldn't bet the house on it

15-16 he scored a massive 4 league goals.

Meanwhile Ribery is well into decline

yeah, Ribery has been dealing with his health problems and will never get better at his age. The left side is weaker than last year should Gnabry go on loan, so he should stay.

Any young talents from the reserve team that you think is good enough for the 1st team ? Ancelotti seems not to have patience on developing young talent, not good at all.

Gnabry will most likely go out on loan this season.

Robben is a starter if fit. He's WC even at 34. I hope that Ribery is phased out of the starting line-up. I haven't been particularly impressed with him in the past 2-3 seasons.
