Union possession lead to some chances early, but RSL defenders were in position to make plays-and did. Union defenders............watch a lot as Plata & co. unload blasting caps at Blake. The overall tenor to this point could best be summed up by Pereira, who threw away a perfectly good 2 on 1 because he didn't care to run another 5 steps...... Petke's strategy to chop down Philly at every opportunity is being rewarded by tonight's referee: Kostas Photofinish. You can see the Union don't want to run-their midfield is 2nd best to everything and the middle has been all but abandoned on the trek back. It'll be interesting to measure their will vs. their legs at altitude over the next 45.
Man, there was a lot of shitiness to go around on that goal. The entire defensive shape gets demolished by a few simple passes...they easily get overloaded on that side...Fabi and Ray keep a charging attacker onside...easy tap in. Yeesh.
Are we losing Bedoya, Medunjanin and Blake at the same time? How many games is that? Medunjanin for NYC? Bedoya for a couple, right?
............. .500 they hardly knew ye............ I get accused, from time to time, of being " a bit negative" with my outlook on this squad so-in the interest of fairness- I'll leave this blank slate to the interested: Describe the Union midfield effort (collectively-starters and subs) tonight in 4 words or less. * a side note of congrats to Mr. Marcus on his debut 10 minutes. Had a bit of liveliness added to the contest late. Gave me a brief pause to consider a late draw shockingly possible.....but to no avail. and now: a " Not Ray Gaddis edition " of our 3 stars : *** : Elliott - decent effort from the back, almost scored a header. ** : Picault - decent effort from the front, almost scored a header. *- (MotM) - - strong effort from the cage, stood on his head, and sometimes landed on it.........
I didn't really like the subs, but then again there is not much in the cupboard for Curtin to even choose from.
I mean a loss for cross country game at altitude shouldn't be a huge dissapointment, but with RSL's poor form, the upcoming schedule, and the other results this weekend a point at minimum really did seem needed... I thought the first half was decent, but the second half was a lot of tire spinning... the subs were whatever, already mentioned there wasn't much of a choice in terms of game changing options. This could be the start of a slide... Not feeling great about NYC away. I think the CAM (or lack thereof) continues to be the biggest issue in this team... when your 1 and 2 options are Ilsinhio and Alberg you have a problem... especially in this formation.
