Good question, then: what's the biggest moment any Mexico NT has ever had at the Azteca? TBH, '70 and '86 are slim pickings; with all due respect to the the youth teams, I don't think it gets better than this.
CONMEBOL keeps up with the idea of a neutral-site final for the Copa Libertadores (maybe from 2018 onward). The question is, if/when Mexico rejoins, would the FMF be allowed to bid? A Copa Libertadores final at the Azteca could be epic...but it would also be a gamble that, should no Mexican team reach the game, the teams involved would have enough prestige and/or stars to attract general interest.
CONMEBOL positioning itself for that sweet sweet USA money. Imagine River vs Flamengo in Miami or New York.
Gullit Pena just sold to Scottish team Rangers. Caixihina wants him to play for him. I give him six months.
No way the Scottish league is better than Liga MX, but good for him . Hopefully Caixhina takes some more Mexican players to Europe and they tear up the Scottish league.
Liga MX is a better league than the Scottish league but the Scottish league style is not a good fit for Mexicans imo. I don't think he'll do well at all if he goes.
anderson was named the best player, and collected his trophy on crutches after getting hurt early in the final . sahin won the bronze ball, with gio getting the silver . what a hell of a trio of unfulfilled potential no , same tournament, he's just not remembering accurately. the first picture is from the u-17 tournament, and the second from a friendly in 07 that took place in dortmund. sahin was number 10 at the tournament. this is a picture from the same game with nuri coming on for basturk also, going back to anderson, he had a good tournament and did well for brazil, but the fact gio had a great final and anderson missed most of it makes it seem like the award had already been determined beforehand. hell, you could even make an argument sahin had a better tournament as well. i remember how special he seemed so soon, and how winning the silver shoe in the tournament and scoring against germany in his international debut made people overhype him. the goalscoring was nice (especially since 3 of his 4 goals in the tournament were in the knockout stages ) but it was never his game. i remember the arguments had by the spazziest of mexispazzos, using the correlation that sahin already scored for turkey at 17, so gio and vela needed to go germany in 06. i remember his eventual debut, in puebla, against panama , in 07. the rain was horrible. he also could've scored a tap in the conditions reminded me of the mexico - liberia game in veracruz in 2001. i was excited to see weah play, but unfortunately this was 35 year old weah, not world player of the year of 95. he still did well and got a goal and an assist. at that point , weah's efforts to basically be the liberian FA had been published because the country was in shambles during the charles taylor administration. he was responsible for getting uniforms, travel, paid the wages, etc... and also coached. liberia made a run at the world cup in 2002, but finished one point behind nigeria, after ghana beat them, then lost to nigeria. liberia was one month removed from the elimination
WHAT IN GOD'S NAME IS THIS?! 😱The Australian coverage of Sydney v Liverpool is the worst thing you'll ever see... pic.twitter.com/waug6Fbt1S— Empire of the Kop (@empireofthekop) May 24, 2017
Old versions of FIFA wonderkids. Every once in a while I go back to the old games to see who were the highest rated prospects at the time and check how they're doing now. Mostly, not good.
Belgium have remarkably produced a lot of talented players within this decade. Lukaku, de Bruyne, Courtois, Batshuayi, Benteke, etc...
