The US finished third in a qualifying tournament for the first Beach Soccer World Cup. That was sufficient to qualify for the World Cup. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=327001&cc=5901 I suppose the tournament included teams from throughout the Americas. Does anyone know anything about the US team? Have a roster?
Check out http://www.beachsoccer.com/ for articles, photos, and female eye candy. The US lineup for the third place match was: STARTING LINE-UP USA Fisher #22 Gyau #3 Hill #6 Chris #7 Francis #10 FROM THE BENCH USA Ryan #4 Nolz #8 Raphael #9 Benny #5 Betinho #2 HEAD COACH Roberto Ceciliano Anyone heard of these folks?
Philip Gyau is still playing? What is he, like, 40 years old? He was a speed player for the Maryland Bays in the old APSL. I think he even got a senior cap or two.
The 2013 Concacaf Beach tournament is supposed to take place May 8, but there is no other information (teams, schedule, ...) on the Concacaf site: http://www.concacaf.com/page/BeachSoccer/NewsDetail/0,,12813~3105932,00.html Tahiti hosts the Fifa Beach WC in September: http://www.fifa.com/beachsoccerworldcup/
http://www.ussoccer.com/news/beach-...lls-in-12-players-for-camp-in-california.aspx Chris Toth from the San Diego Sockers play for the USMNBT
I was more shocked that Brazil has won this 9x out of the 11x it was played then Gyau is still playing .
Groups announced for Concacaf Beach 2013: http://www.concacaf.com/page/BeachSoccer/NewsDetail/0,,12813~3155282,00.html Group A: Bahamas, United States, Guatemala, Puerto Rico Group B: Mexico, Canada, Trinidad & Tobago, Guyana Group C: El Salvador, Costa Rica, Jamaica Eleven teams. Two teams (SF winners) advance to the Beach World Cup. The exact schedule is not out yet. The release says that there will a lot of play-off matches (maybe to give each team an exact final ranking), for a total of 25 matches (when group play + SF's + third + F would only give a total of 19).

Maybe not so sad now that we know Spain is in the final and Tahiti reached the semifinals after blowing out Argentina in the quarters. Arguably a Group of Death, except that in beach soccer it's more of a Major Bummer of a Group, Man.

Three of four group-play days are complete in the Concacaf Beach 2017. One of four groups is complete. So, it looks like extra time is not played in tie games, but go directly to PK's. According to the Beach Laws of the Game, points are 3-0 for regulation results, 2-0 for extra-time results, and 1-0 for PK results. (So the losing team always gets zero points.) (Concacaf does not give standings on their pages, maybe because their programs don't handle this point system.) So I'll throw in this caveat: this is how I read what the standings would be. One more thing: the teams that finish third and fourth still have playoff matches between them, eventually leading to a complete #1 to #16 final ranking. Completed group: teamptgfgadiff Bahamas91037 Jamaica313112 Guyana3811-3 Belize1612-6 According to the Concacaf Regulations, teams tied in points first go to head-to-head, so Jamaica should get second due to their win over Guyana. Groups in progress: teamptgfgadiff Mexico617512 Canada3912-3 Guadeloupe3713-6 Barbados0811-3 upcoming: Canada -v- Guadeloupe (so the winner is the second team to advance) Mexico -v- Barbados (Mexico already clinched first due to defeating [read: "destroying"] Canada and Guadeloupe) teamptgfgadiff United States615312 Trinidad613211 Virgin Islands0213-11 Antigua & Barbuda0315-12 upcoming, as you might have guessed from these standings: Antigua & Barbuda -v- Virgin Islands United States -v- Trinidad teamptgfgadiff El Salvador41367 Costa Rica3936 Panama1550 Turks & Caicos0417-13 upcoming (two PK games in this group already, setting up possiblities of ties in the final standings): El Salvador -v- Costa Rica Panama -v- Turks & Caicos Costa Rica defeated Turks and Caicos, so a tie at three points would still eliminate Turks.
