Matt wins his first piece of European silverware as he goes the full 90 in a 2-0 win over AZ Alkmaar in the final of the Dutch Cup. I think it's fair to say, that despite the early hiccups, this loan has been a major success. He's improving his ball skills, becoming a more complete defender, and has performed well in a good league. And Vitesse Arnhem are #DutchCup champions! 2-0 win thanks to a van Wolfswinkle brace, first trophy in club's 125 year history. Incredible.— Matthew Doyle (@MattDoyle76) April 30, 2017
Vitesse will play in the Europa League group stages for the first time ever next season, having lost in the qualifiers the last three times.— Chelsea Youth (@chelseayouth) April 30, 2017
Well, clearly this loan was a horrible mistake and Chelsea don't know what they're doing with youth players. Disaster.
Miazga joins John O'Brien, DaMarcus Beasley, and Jozy Altidore as Americans that have the KNVB Cup in their trophy collections.
Matt Miazga helps win Dutch Championship . . . http://www.starsandstripesfc.com/us...azga-vitesse-dutch-cup-final-az-alkmaar-usmnt If you’re a USMNT fan and you’re dying to see what Miazga can do. Tune into the Gold Cup this summer as you can expect him to play a significant role. And while it will be good to see him perform well and establish himself for the future.
Didn't Onyewu also win this on loan at Twente? ... "Can you lend us a twente?" Was the thread title me thinks...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010–11_KNVB_Cup#Final You're right. Though he missed out on featuring in the final.
There are a number links on YouTube with the full match. I'm only halfway through and very impressed with Miazga's play. In general, he looks very confident, comfortable and composed. Defensively, he has been very aware of surroundings, holding lines, picking up runners, and communicating with others. He's won all his aerial duels, cut off passes, been physically intimating and stood up an attacker/forced him backwards in the only time I recall him in a 1v1 situation. Offensively, he's been pushed out on the left and has been clean with his touches, making simple passes, willing to take up space if given to him and connected on at least one long ball to the target striker.
Not sure. Yes, he was on loan at Twente when they won the Dutch Cup, but some countries only give medals to players who are in the starting XI or on the bench for the final. In those countries, even if a guy plays every minute of every game up to the final, if he is injured, suspended or is in the squad but not on the bench on the day, he gets nothing.
Yup, as I posted in the match thread Matt intercepted crossings that would have been killers, as Vitesse at those moments were in disarray. To be honest, I think he was the best Chelski on he pitch.
