It doesn't have to be mutually exclusive, you have veterans and work in young players. This year we could certainly have used Sadiq and played him against the likes of Pescara and Palermo or as a sub for Dzeko.

You are correct you can't have a team of all Primavera graduates but you can have a number of them and play them in the right games and let them grow. It gives you depth, you build for the future and you don't have to spend money to find reserve players.

Gotta combine the young guys and veterans. Not just a team of primavera players. Instead of wasting money on players you don't need you promote a young guy.

Glad I didn't get up at 3:30 for this. What a way for Totti's last derby to end :(

I know... but! It might not be, at least form his comments, he didn't seem to think so. I hope we get one more year with Totti being used as the supersub he is.

The sooner as that back 4 gets out of the Rome, the better.

We are such a poor season......... some people at Roma need to relise it.

Napoli have beaten Inter. 2nd place is hanging in the balance. If we miss out on it in the last few games of the season, things are going to get a lot more complicated than they need to be.

I have not watched Roma too much other then like two of the EL games... Does Totti not produce playmaker quality any more? I remember him playing two very pretty balls in those games...

signore Luciano wants to look like a genius with his tactics. Totti just makes magic happen thus going against Spals *tactical genius* I think he is bitter about his last stint at Roma and wants to show he was the reason for success and not Totti.

Or totti is 40, oft injured and/or unable to move around the pitch in any manner which could be considered swift.

I think it's misguided to believe he's jaded against Totti when he hasn't used Perotti or Grenier either; the players most likely to cover a playmaker role.

That's certainly part of it. Nobody can expect Totti to start or to be playing in every game due to his age, decline in speed, injuries, etc. But we can't act like Spalletti is a fan of Totti. Also, as slow as Totti might be, even he at 30 years old offers a playmaking ability that Perrotti and Grenier cannot provide. It's definitely a combination of things but Spalletti has it out for Totti and he's shown that many times when he's had ample opportunities to use him and hasn't or putting him in with 4 minutes left in the game.

I think we've all come to terms with the reality that Totti's career is done this year or the next and the expectations for him are extremely low. But I also think that any other coach would have made much better use of what he has left and shown him much more of the respect he deserves in his final days.

after what happened last season to think there is no beef between those to is naive. Totti went on tv something that he probably shouldn't of done asking for playing time...

Conte treated Del Piero better and people gave him crap on how he used him..

Maybe but I think mostly Spalletti just prefers players that will run like a donkey, which is why he can't win the important games I guess.

How many goals have Lazio scored against us in the last few games ? 6, 7 8 goals ? Pathetic, as I have been saying for the last 5 years, until we have a good defense we will win nothing and continue to be humiliated by "decent teams".

lol, ask Milan-fans how happy they are with their current situation which is exactly what you described.

I don't get the Salah bashing. He was the only Roma player that created dangerous situations yesterday. It's our defence that looked like they didn't even care. Especially Peres and Rüdiger were abysmal and had their fair share on how things went.

We were so bad that it's hard to pin the blame on a single player. Emerson was a disaster at his defensive duties. Rudiger was a waste at RB and got himself stupidly sent off. Fazio was clumsy as hell and could've caused two penalties. Manolas is just going through the motions. Peres is apparently not entirely fit, which begs the question why was he subbed in.

Fazio in particular has been somewhat of a revelation this season, mostly because the expectations for him were far lower than what we have seen. But the truth is that against any decent opposition with quicker forwards (Napoli, Lazio) his weaknesses have been exposed and that has hurt the team. With Manolas surely leaving, it looks like we're set for another revolving door of defenders this summer.

Honestly, I can't point to a single player that played well. Some worse than others but all miserable to one extent or another. DDR wasn't completely horrible yesterday.

Poor Rudiger, Spalletti keeps switching him from RB to CB.. and that's all in 1 match. It would be ok if he were a 29 year old veteran but he's still learning one of the most difficult positions. He's played RB, CB, right side on 3 man back, left side on a 3 man back. ffs, this kid needs some consistency.

I watched the domenica sportiva last night and they showed the replays. It seemed like Roma was moving in slow motion on each goal. Their entire defense looked sluggish at best.

You sure it wasn't actually in slow motion as they broke down the goals during replay?

It was astonishing how slow our defenders were to react to some situations yesterday. Particularly Emerson on their first two goals. Hard to fathom. We're battling for a hugely important objective, in a derby match, and we produce that insipid performance. I cant understand it.

Our defenders were bad no doubt but it was made twice as bad for them because the Lazio players were allowed to run full speed through the MF unopposed.

If Spalletti is back I'd just as soon Totti retire than be treated this way for another year.
