Well, the spring has been good to us. Some good wins, even for the spring. New guys are even contributing. Today's Mexico!
thanks for starting a thread. too bad the game got cancelled. let's hope an undefeated spring leads into a better fall.
Yeah, weird thing is that there was no lightning at all (they played the baseball game across the street).
TDS says IU's 2017 class is #4 in the country. Lots of forwards. Hopefully one of them will pan out. http://www.idsnews.com/article/2017/07/iu-brings-in-10-man-recruiting-class
3-1 exhibition win over xavier last night. goals were scored by lipe-melton, mehl, and freshman warr. it sounds like we shut x down fairly well only allowing 2 shots on goal. unfortunately we only saved half of them. we play louisville in westfield and duke in ft wayne later this week to complete the warm-ups. real games start with nd's tournament next weekend.
The Xavier game: we pretty much dominated, but then we stopped playing D for a minute and X scored on one of their two shots. The freshmen acquitted themselves well. Toye got into dangerous situations, but kept laying off the ball to the upper classmen. Hopefully he'll adjust and score goals. Dorsey was amazing. He's long, lean, and fast. He consistently beat his marker on the right and has no qualms about shooting! His cross/shot led to one of the goals. L'ville: a much closer game. UoL is a good team (and a VERY international team) and exposed us on the counter a number of times. Their two goals came from corners resulting from good chances that were parried by our keepers. We need to do a better job of heading the ball and marking people on set pieces. However, UoL had no answer for Dorsey. He's relentless, has good skills and wants to put the ball in the net. He shredded UoL's left side and made scoring his two goals look easy. Mehl then put in an AMAZING free kick from about 30 yds out to win the game. On to Ft. Wayne and Duke. BRF
Perhaps - but we have to shore up our D against the counter and set pieces. Wouldn't hurt if someone could head the ball. Never thought I'd be whining about IU's defense and gushing about our offense!
Wow - IU v Duke 1-1, only scores were PKs in the 87th and 90th minute. I wasn't there, but I'm wondering...
Yeah, SD pretty much bunkered during regulation. Lots of SD fouls. We were pummeling their goal, but couldn't find the back of the net, The SD GK made some good saves. SD did get a couple of shots off in OT, but Muse was up to the task. Finally, Dorsey scored one of his signature goals from the right, 25 yds out. Back home to Armstrong/Yeagley!
at least it's on BTN. looking further down the schedule, we get michigan away and notre dame at home on btn too. michigan state away is on espnu. that seems odd.
Thanks to Harvey, rain, cold rain, and more rain. High of 60 degrees. After a somewhat listless first half, we dominated the Dons. For once it doesn't seem that we are having any trouble scoring - and by a number of different players, including two PKs. We still have trouble getting a head on the ball defensively against set pieces and that's how the Dons got their one goal. In the second half we just wore them down with our deep forward and midfield corps. Each time they thought they'd adapted to our attack, a different player and different style struck. The Dons tried to make the game physical early on and paid the price. They started getting frustrated and earned a number of yellows. To both teams credit, it didn't escalate in the latter stages of the game. I wondered how IU would play against a very physical team and now I know. Highlights On to a warmer, clearer Sunday against the Bulls!
IU-3, USF-0. Interesting game. We got a beautifully orchestrated goal in the first half with Gutman putting it away from about the six(!), but then sat back and let USF come after us. And come after us they did. Muse with some good saves. Toye got into some very dangerous places with and without the ball but came up empty. We changed tactics in the second half, leaving in some more seasoned players and going over the top more to Hyacenth. It worked out pretty well. We did get a gift on the second goal on a cross in the box. For whatever reason, the USF defender handled it. Didn't have to - he was clear of other players and should have been able to head it into touch. He didn't and Swartz put it home. The third goal came on a cross from Panchot which Hyacenth powerfully headed home. On to the true test, the evil MD tortugas.
I'm looking forward to watching Indiana vs. Maryland later this week! I think it'll be a really good test for both schools. From what I've read about Indiana, they have some really good defenders. And I've watched Maryland a couple times, so I know they have a solid attack. It should be a fun one!
A really good game. We had the better of the play the entire match, but MD's GK had an excellent game. We had lots of excellent chances, including another Mehl free kick that was kept out by a great save. Lots of fouls (and yellows) by MD. Luckily for us, Wild had an off night. {I hate OT!}
Yeah, we've been prone to pushing up too high and getting beaten on the counter. You could tell the coaches emphasized that - our guys got back quickly and in numbers. I like that in a team. No doubt! And not just in November. These two teams could go deep into the NCAA this year. Would you mind only bringing your backup keeper? And maybe Wilde has to study for finals?
