I've read that Barca see Phil as the successor to Iniesta. Phil might find a transition season acceptable - all Latino players find the idea of playing for Barca very hard to resist.
There has been more chatter about Barca going for Eriksen. The only links to Coutinho have come when he is with Brasil and Neymar makes a suggestion about the move. Eriksen would be a much better fit in their squad, honestly.
We were for sure - so much so that every journo harped on about it. Alderweireld too. We used to joke that Spurs would always just target who we were interested in - but it was probably true because they knew we were going to ******** around with bids that weren't serious or would dilly-dally in making a bid and they could jump right in. Alli, Eriksen, and Alderweireld all are examples. Sigurdssen too.
The strange thing is Liverpool pay more than Spurs in terms of wages.....Living in London has it's benefits and players have more privacy to some extent
That’s depressing news. It’s surprising that Barca would have so much confidence in him. Iniesta’s one of the great midfielders of the modern game and Coutinho’s hardly played in that position. He had a handful of starts there under Rodgers and then a few more since Klopp’s taken over. I know our set-up’s been much more fluid this season, with LM/LAMs and RM/RAMs clearly under instructions to switch positions regularly, but still… On the subject of Barca, the Turan shout from the last page is a good one. We’ve been linked with him so many times. It would be great if we could finally land him. We have a net spend of zero over the three windows since Klopp arrived, so in theory we should have money to burn.
Or FSG is using smoke and mirrors to pay for the new stand as some are saying. I don't think they are - but I'm at a complete loss to understand how they expect us to compete without spending. You attract a Rolls-Royce manager - but give him Yugo cars with a couple of Maserati's sprinkled into the mix.
I do hope this isn't true as well. It is curious, though - record commercial revenues, record TV deal, but spending less than when Roy Evans was in charge. Our interest in Draxler in January seems to have been genuine. But then that could be seen as a bit of an Everton-style transfer bid - offer big money safe in the knowledge that you'll never have to hand it over, because the player's off elsewhere.
Not a transfer but may affect potential transfers: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...Dejan-Lovren-signs-new-100-000-week-deal.html
Good move in my opinion. Ultimately, I would like to see us upgrade our centerbacks this summer. However, we will still need players like Lovren if we want to have a deep squad. He has had a good season despite the last match. Klopp acknowledges that his decision making still needs improving and he will continue working with him. We have already seen huge improvements since Rodgers left. Klopp also points out that if we were to sign a Lovren from another club he would be very expensive. So signing him to a new contract was an obvious decision.
Lovren and the entire defence needs to step their game tbh.....I still feel majority of his funds need to be towards a cb
Can't do it - as we need a striker, a LB, and a CM/DM in addition to the CB - and honestly probably a wide player in the mold of Mane if Ojo, Wilson, and Kent aren't going to make the jump. We have a lot of holes to fill.
Of course Lovren will step up his game now....they just guaranteed him a shite-load of money for years to come.
We need a striker and have needed one since the beginning of January. I'd like to see us acquire some FBs who actually score goals not from the penalty spot but that's not as pressing IMHO
Liverpool don't have a problem scoring goals (even with the potentially 25 goal a season Sturridge not featuring ).....Liverpool have scored 70 goals thus far, which is the best in the league yet conceded 42, that is same as west Bromwich and 2 less that 2nd to bottom Middlesborough Surely this suggest theres a leak at the back and heammoraging goals by the barrel full....by the looks of it Millie will be doing his job at LB Ojo was close last season so I'm hoping he is a season closer...similarly Kent or Wilson should be pushing for a starting position??.....will be interesting to see how Klopp does his shopping in the summer
This is the priority for me. When Mane isn't available, it changes our play. If one of the kids can step up, then great. I know he isn't on your list, but it's worth pointing out that while Woodburn might turn out to be a fine player, he's definitely no replacement for Mane. There was a moment against Stoke when he was through on goal, and the defenders caught up with him within the space of about ten yards.
Sure - but have have you seen how few goals we have scored since the turn of the year? One player goes down/away (Mane) - and we stop scoring. Add to that we have one striker named Sturridge who makes Harry Kewell and Fabio Aurelio look like iron men - so no goals. That's why I said Ojo, Kent and Wilson can't be relied on - not one start between this year (Kent on loan obviously). Would LOVE one to make the jump but history isn't on our side. We of course need a CB to pair Matip - but we can't spend the majority of the budget on that is what I'm saying. We have so many holes. Our tumble from title challengers to clawing for 4th laid bare our deficiencies (which of course included conceding silly goals).
Agree we have many holes to fill. Definitely need some more senior talent in the back line but imho the midfield also badly needs some upgrade - we need a few Kante types in the squad so we don't get overrun on the counter so often.
If Liverpool were to sign a striker, it would have to a replacement for Sturridge, one willing to be a sub and built for pressing.....and it's still speculation on how much funds Klopp has at his disposal but it should be significant to purchase a few additions (it's a sellers market) I'm not convinced of the 'we will score one more than you ' mindset whereby the defensive deficiencies are masked with scoring more goals.... its clearly not sustainable in a team wanting to challenge Seen as though southampton is a possible destination for signings exchelsea Oriol Romeu could be a target? VVD looks as though he will be at citeh
We need an attacking player with speed. Every time we've played like crap, it's because we've been missing that type of player . Coutinho needs that type of player to give him that option or to create space. When we've been missing that type of player we've struggled and our offense has bogged down
