Dwayne Ewart, previously with the Vancouver Whitecaps academy has signed. He's still 17/18 but has immense potential.

The Pittsburgh Riverhounds are expected to be a major contender in the USL this season and much of their success hinges upon the performance of three NPSL alums. Midfielder Alex Harlley and goalkeepers Mauricio Vargas and Brenden Alfery are all likely to be key contributors in Pittsburgh’s 2016 campaign.

PITTSBURGH (December 20, 2016) – The Pittsburgh Riverhounds have signed defender Taylor Washington to a one-year deal with a club option for the 2018 season, pending USL and USSF approval.
Washington, 23, comes to the Hounds after spending this past season on loan with cross-state foe Bethlehem Steel FC. He was originally drafted by the Steel’s parent club, the Philadelphia Union of the MLS, in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft.

Zips Nation have watched Victor Souto last 4 years. He was the emotional leader of Akron during that tenure. He was not captain - only because he is too much of a hot head. Excellent ball winner at HMF.

Tell me when you like him. Cheers!

Sounds like all that's needed is a 3rd or 4th GK, right?

Brandt said he expects Columbus to send us a keeper. As long as that's the case I don't think we need anyone else for now.

I was curious as a crew fan did they renew their contract with the hounds for this season?

The articles I could find only mentioned a contract for 2016.

The Crew and Hounds are together again for this season, at least.

Hope he can focus on scoring goals and not kicking opponents in the back.

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CO-CAPTAIN MATT PERRELLA SIGNS USL CONTRACT WITH PITTSBURGH RIVERHOUNDS

METUCHEN, N.J. | Co-Captain and starting goalkeeper Matt Perrella has officially signed with the USL-side Pittsburgh Riverhounds.

“I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity,” said Perrella. “All the hard work that I’ve put in, starting with FC Copa Academy as a kid, playing with New Jersey Copa FC the past two summers, and all the stops in between have prepared me to make an immediate impact for the Riverhounds.”

The Riverhounds, who were founded in 1998, have been competing in the USL since 1999, the second tier of professional soccer in the United States. For New Jersey Copa FC in 2017, Perrella earned Jersey Mike’s Man of the Match honors throughout the season, while recording 170 saves and three shutouts as the starting goalkeeper.

“We are all incredibly proud of Matt for taking this next step in his professional career,” explained Head Coach Roberto Aguas. “From a young age, you could tell that Matt was going to go far in whatever he put his mind to. He has worked tirelessly to continue to create new opportunities for himself, and as a result he now has a shot to be successful in the second-tier of professional soccer here in the States. We wish him the best of luck as he joins the Riverhounds!”

Starting in goal for NJCFC in 2016 and 2017, Matt Perrella returned to NJCFC this summer following stints with the USL squad Bethlehem Steel and the MLS’s Philadelphia Union. After playing collegiate soccer at Division I Rider University, Perrella went on to get his Master’s from Durham University in England, which allowed him to launch an overseas career that brought him trials with Newcastle United in England, Udinese in Italy, LB Châteauroux in France, Daugava Riga in Latvia and APOEL in Cyprus. In the US, Perrella has spent time with the NASL Carolina Railhawks (now North Carolina FC) and Sporting Kansas City.

Everyone is looking for a fresh start in 2021 after the pandemic shortened season of 2020. NPSL alum Todd Wharton is getting his new start with a new team.

Wharton is the one of the latest signings for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. The Hounds have made multiple high-profile USL signings this season as they look to capture a championship, something Wharton did in 2013 with NPSL side RVA FC and in 2014 with the Virginia Cavaliers.
