I hope not. This thread has been somehow quiet in the last days, but I hope this doen't mean that the transition to new system is considered a done deal. There are still at least one or two problems that really need to be solved.
More than one or two. The site is to my eye and usage passable, but far from optimal. Since it's passable -- meaning I don't find it completely impossible -- I've backed off this thread to see how I feel about things after I'm used to them. But one day soon I'd like to sit down and compile a list of things that I still believe require genuine improvement. And, frankly, some of those things have been on the to-do list from day 1 and still have not been resolved. -- addition -- Here's an example of what's still in need of work: https://www.bigsoccer.com/categories/usa.136/ Day 1 I said the icons needs tons and tons of work for the sake of visual differentiation. Still nothing done. As it is currently, it's like BigSoccer adopted this great new visual style, and then utterly half-assed it. Day 1 (or maybe 2) I said that last post time is not enough. We need to see the name of the thread for the last post. (Same on the My Forums page, too.) There are a whole bunch of things left of this order.
Not least mobile browsing which is still a complete mess. To navigate to the bottom breadcrumb trail I need to scroll through, after the posts, a half screen reply box, a half screen advert, a half screen recent articles section, a half screen trending articles section and a second half page advert. That is 2.5 screens of scrolling. It is also three, half screen adverts per page if you include the top one! The green navigation button is useful going up but if you go down you then need to scroll back through the mess above to reach the last post and actual content. Speaking of which is you are going to be playing around with the green navigation buttons can different visible times be applied depending on your browser? I see in prior posts people were asking for the time to be increased to enables more time for them to scroll their mouse to interact with them. That is all well and good on desktop but they are already proving annoying on mobile as they block content and interacting with them is a lot quicker on mobile than with a mouse.
Plus the green buttons are redundant on a desktop. If you move to the right then engage the scroll bar, the green arrows appear. The green buttons just repeat the functionality of the scroll bar: you've already done the work to make them appear. Why not just finish with it by using the scroll bar and not the green buttons? Thx, Jay!
That's like saying the express train is redundant to the local train. No it just takes you there much faster. Which is completely why the green buttons exist. Obviously they're not eveyone's cup of tea, but some of us find them useful. I think they could make all sides happy if they just gave people the option to toggle them on/off like they did the right sidebar (remember that?!), and also for those of us who want to use them, make them stay on the screen more than 2 secs, or better yet, make them triggered by hovering bottom right corner. Admins, what say ye?
Except when you can get a "uber" (for lack of a better metaphor/just use whatever metaphor you prefer for intra-city travel) by pressing the home and end buttons on your keyboard to do it even faster than the express train.
OK, to each his own. Personally, I'd rather not have to take my hand off my mouse, look down at my keyboard, to find & hit the Home key. It's faster, more efficient to keep my hand on the mouse, keep my eyes on the screen, and use the green arrows. And if the admins could fix their behavior it would be a notch faster, easier.
I have an ad below the top breadcrumb trail, one under the reply box and another above the bottom breadcrumb trail. I only ever post on mobile so I do not know the situation elsewhere but it would be interesting to know.
Pretty sure I didn't click anything but in just got directed to a "WalMart lucky visitor" site. Tried to snap a pic but I backed out of it first. Not showing up in my history, either. Thx, Jay!
I've been getting that a couple of times as well @JayRockers! I think its part of the ads that BigSoccer displays (I've seen it in the past at other sites as well).
Sorry that I'm not going to put together lists of issues like other did; I'm a casual user of the site. But the new format is so much more unusable, that I feel like a rank amateur trying to get through this thing. I'm pretty sure I actually lost information. So frustrating, again and again. I can't recommend this site anymore.
"Get through" what? We come here to read posts and post ourselves. What the hell has become "unusable" about that? For God's sake, close this thread. It's got nothing but a bunch of petty gripes now. Oh, and maybe Big Soccer should change the green up/down buttons into purple ones or gold ones. Would that make everyone happy? We all know how BIG a deal the green ones have become to destroying our enjoyment of life.
The fact that unread posts on forums and sub-forums aren't somehow shown is a real issue. And it affects what's, in your own words, the main purpose of this website itself: reading posts. It becomes much more taxing, if I have to go manually looking into each forum/subforum to see if there are new posts. So, I'd say: no, it's not time to close this thread yet.
In mobile: I click "tools" and then "edit." The list of three options stays and covers up a huge portion of what I'm trying to edit. It seems like that list should disappear. Also with mobile, as others have said, the huge horizontal header at the top and the green button are distracting.
Requesting again. Can we get appropriate logos/forum avatars for Minnesota United ( I am sure Atlanta folk would like their own logo as well) in the forums? They are currently US flags.
Good morning. I am out of town on my Android phone and the last couple of times I've posted, I don't have the "Edit" option available at the bottom of the post. Is that happening to all mobile users, or just Androids?
