SMH, CDMX is an awesome city. They're missing out. Might be a little different as a white person but they can stay in the nice tourist areas.

 

it's odd too because they always explain to friends and family how safe mexico is

but for whatever reason the hype around CdMX and crime has them shook

 

I was there last year, peeps were out late enjoying the restaurants and environment.

I felt pretty safe in most areas plus there was local police and feds on just about every corner.

 

The public transit is shady AF. I wouldn't advice them to take it.

I second this. Public transport is horrible.

Uber is pretty convenient. Cheap and safe.

¿De cuál transporte público hablamos? Hasta a algunos chilangos no les gustan subirse a los micros, pero el Metro y el Metrobus son muy buenos. Es mejor recomendar evitarlos a la hora pico, no completamente. Si uno ha usado el "subway" de San Francisco, Chicago o Nueva York no debe tenerle ningún miedo al del DF. Como en cualquier otra ciudad hay riesgos pero no es para tanto.

 

I used the metro and the busses while in DF...there's nothing shady about it.

maybe it's the area that we were going through, but we went from Tlalnepantla to a market near Tepito and back. It was shady. I was with two of my ex-wife's uncles and her dad (from there) and even they try to avoid it when necessary. My ex-suegro got robbed at gun point on a bus a couple years ago. They told us to be careful and to watch how we dressed. The bus was definitely shady, more-so than the Metro (although that is overcrowded and apparently lots of thieves around and lots of sexual harrasment). Did they get us from point A to point B in a timely manner? Yes. Did I feel safe? No.
