I presume he would fly business, with seats that turn into beds. I am not advocating that he should be traveling, just saying that he likely would not be sitting for extended periods of time.

Yes, I have more issues with Fabian, Chandler, and Brooks getting pressure from their clubs.

As for Bobby, I suspect this was a one-time event. In part to rest & get any little discomfort checked. In part to mourn the firing of a guy who, all things considered, was a good friend, a mentor, and had faith in him when few did.

I'd have done the same, probably. It wouldn't diminish Bobby in my mind at all, all the contrary.

So we're now to the point of assuming the guy who took arguably the toughest path of any player in our pool to get to where he is today, needed time off to mourn the firing of Jurgen from four months ago? Is Bobby still sporting pampers too?

I suggest he's a cutthroat player born of a cutthroat environment and this psychoanalysis is miles off the mark.

It is true we don't know what kind of pressure is being applied on Bobby behind the scenes. You would hope he can stand up to it, but if his injury is borderline, a pushy team doctor might be enough to keep him in Germany.

It also might be that he trusts a doctor because that's what people are trained to do, instead of looking at them as employees, people with profit-motive, and those who are fallible. Players get routine checks and are evaluated for minor knocks, pains, soreness, etc.; which are very commonplace in the sport and they typically play through. But if they are told it's within their best interest afterward to rest, many will just take their word for it. When it's not necessarily about the player's best interest, rather the club's. The players don't pay them.

Others will listen to their bodies and have the attitude if they feel good enough and it's an important match they'll be on the field. Sometimes they're right to do so and others they're wrong and they should have listened to the doc. It's a much more complicated situation than it's being made.

This is why second opinions outside the bubble are so important. They are when the doctor doesn't have so much of a conflict of interest. That's where I think there's more blatant pressure from the club. When you seek a 2nd opinion the club can be adversarial because they want to trust them, even though you shouldn't necessarily. Geoff sought a 2nd opinion in the States than he got with Stoke. So far, his return has went smoothly. Maybe it would have anyway, but I thought he played that intelligently. Might have learned from things not going well w/ nt teammates in trusting the club doc's opinion and returning too soon from knee injuries. When you're on their dime they want to err on the side of aggression, someone else's the side of caution. That's my observation.

I'm def not knocking Wood. I'd hate for him to have come to the games carrying an injury and further aggravated it in say 10 minutes of playing (and then he's out for 3 months).

Our boys have a lot of terrible luck when it comes to injuries at the worst possible time.

Arena stressed that the challenges for playing for the U.S. team are still immense.

"At times, your club teams don't want you going"....

did Dempsey ever have any problems with Fulham or Spurs regarding call-ups. I seem to recall JK getting into it with Jozy's manager at AZ back in 2012.

    Most delighted.

Bobby's family moved to California when he was 12. His dad, though, returned to Hawaii and left his wife with the two kids (Bobby and his sister) in Irvine.

A couple of years after, at 14, they moved to a different area, Mission Viejo I think. And a few months after that, he landed the contract with the Munich soccer academy.

Not an easy path, and the partial absence of the father could, perhaps, be behind what appears to be a deep attachment to Klinsmann, who's acting as a father-substitute in a way.

    Anything else?

    • What's his favorite color?
    • Boxers or briefs?
    • The more dirt, the better!
Wait... maybe I didn't put those thoughts in the right order

I love and miss you, Bobby. Especially right now when we see the true quality of options (well, there's one I have in mind).

    Hurry back!

It is clear that some are intent on turning this into some kind of lack of commitment on the part of Bobby. Others, of which I am one, think that the baseless speculation impugning the integrity of a plethora of people inclidng Bobby Wood is pathetic were it not so disgustingly motivated by a pro-MLS agenda.

We will have to disagree, but I won't discuss it any more in this thread. Now that the international break is over, and we can resume our regularly scheduled programming in Yanks Abroad.

Thanks to Big Soccer National team discussions are for other forums!! Now we don't have to let a perfectly good thread discussing the career of an American citizen go to hell in an endless maze of back and forth.

A lot of big words. Do you know what you meant? Those who "impugning" are optimistic about the career of above mentioned American citizen as they believe in an upcoming miracle recovery from the back injury, those who aren't "impugning" apparently suspect that he is seriously hurt, maybe career threatening.
    How dare them.

Best comment so far. This forum really isn't meant for tabloid speculation about daddy issues and national team callups. Let's kindly take that to the USA fora (if you must).

I'd call all the "hurt" Germericans in to be examined by the US team doctor.

This was a WCQ not some friendly.

I've been online since the original RFCs were written. I've been dealing with trolls for 30+ years. So, insulting me has absolutely no effect whatsoever. Your time would be much better used putting me on ignore.

SB Nation Liverpool pundit Zachary Marx examined the constant rumors surrounding a supposed transfer of Wood to the Kop:

    http://liverpooloffside.sbnation.co...016/3/23/11289570/rumour-mongering-bobby-wood

That's the popular wisdom coming out of their fans, and is not too out of what is possible. Reason why I'd be unhappy with such a transfer. The article follows with the usual "brought here by the American owners to stimulate shirt sales in the USA" rubbish.

If Klopp really wants Bobby it is interesting. All coaches want to recreate the magic they had previously with similar type players. Wood is a straight striker. Which means Klopp sees Wood as his next Lewy. In his day, playing for Dortmund , Lewy was the best striker in the world in the box right after Suarez. For me Suarez was the best natural scoring forward of his generation and Lewy second.

If so that is some high praise by Klopp.

Yes, but it's still the position of their fans, actually I just followed the link as posted in one of their forums, didn't check the date.
