Was it more or less glorious than the Spanish announcer who blasted El Tri after Saint Zusi saved them? I'm trying to get a frame of reference here.

Totally agree. Even the dumb ones understand that the party controls all branches of government. Even the dumb ones remember that a full repeal was promised 7 million times on the campaign. And even the dumb ones know that they voted repeal like 60 times in the last 7 years when they could count on Obama to bail them out.

Spinning this on Democrats isn't going to work. Most likely we'll see a period of internal finger pointing, followed by changing the conversation and hoping that short attention span Americans just forget about all this mess.

I'm not a big fan of Ryan, or even a small one, but if Breitbart/Trump chase him out, his successor will surely be worse.

No, it won't. Blaming the other party works until you get your chance to repeal and don't. After that, it's not the Democrats' policy. It's a national, bi-partisan policy.

Wow ... They're insane if they think that replacing Ryan with Meadows is going to help deliver the votes that Ryan couldn't. How the hell is Meadows supposed to deliver the moderate votes with an even more radical agenda?

I guess they could just bully the moderates into submission somehow and then watch as they lose the House in a landslide in 2018.

I honestly don't care which way it shakes out as long as the infighting and dysfunction continues.

if US-Russia relations are getting worse from 2005, why are the Bush's golfing with Putin in 2007.
And if you want to talk about dubious dealings with foreign countries why not include discussion of Obama/Clinton relations with Saudi Arabia for a start.

Seymour Hersh who has a Pulitzer Prize for journalism broke the story and he's an American.
Re your point. Washington Post, NYT etc have become pro-establishment propaganda rags, they're not interested in publishing "unpatriotic" stories.

I dunno ... last time the GOP had presidency and both chambers was from 2002 to 2006. And we know what happened in 2006.

Admittedly that's a small sample. Before that the last time that scenario presented itself was in the 50's

To add my two cents - it is true, as you say, that the rest of the world has no choice in the matter. Since the US is the only superpower left in the planet (economically, militarily, culturally, etc), it is virtually impossible to be indifferent to it.

What is not true by a long shot is the assertion that the rest of the world "wants to be" like the US (I'm not saying you are claiming this, but it is a claim that is made by Americans every now and then, particularly the more jingoistic ones).

Plenty of places out there that are perfectly happy with their form of government, culture, freedoms, rights, etc, etc, etc.

Oh, I certainly don't think there are legislators out there in foreign countries saying "we need to be more like Kansas", not at all. But I do think given the cultural dominance of the United States, many American things are taken as being "better", and are desired. People want the things they see on American TV shows and movies*. In that sense, there's a partially a subconscious aspect to it.

*True story - we had some relatives visit us some years ago, who was reasonably well off. They were doing a "tour" of the US for about 3 weeks, but the one place they insisted on going, was Santa Barbara. Which is a nice place, sure, but none of us could figure out why - until they told us it was apparently because of some soap opera with that name that was in theory based there. None of us had ever even heard of it.

Not so much an issue of other countries caring about the US. The issue is that the US "cares" too much about every other country on the planet.

Midterms are always bad for the President's party. Bush II had an extended grace period thanks to 9/11, but it sorted itself out in 06.

This is patently false, but is exactly what many conspiracy theorists in other countries believe. The US actually cares very little. If it cared more, it would be a lot more like the British Empire.

I don't go into those stores. They keep the heat on in the summer to keep the store near that of their homeland. Ughhhh, and they never change the mopwater, if I wanted to smell like that, I'd just put my feet in the shitter

Trump had to turn over a lot of rocks to fill this cabal of his in the White House. These people are so proud of it as well.

Trump's adviser now says that yes he is a member of Nazi-sympathizer org, just not a full member

Donald Trump’s counter-terrorism adviser Sebastian Gorka has been saying all kinds of wacky things lately. When he’s not railing away at Muslims like some kind of yahoo, he’s doing the Trumpian coward’s dance of trying to dodge how much of a raging antisemite he is. Over a month ago, news with images, came out showing Mr. Gorka wearing a medal of the Nazi-collaborating group of cowards known as Vitézi Rend. He was seen wearing it on television during tiny-hands Trump’s inauguration night. From there, the yellow-spined Gorka tried to distance himself from the organization by first ignoring these reports, and then telling the moving story of a son’s dedication to his father’s legacy.

I have never been a member of the Vitez Rend. I have never taken an oath of loyalty to the Vitez Rend. Since childhood, I have occasionally worn my father’s medal and used the ‘v.’ initial to honor his struggle against totalitarianism.” It’s a perfectly plausible explanation, and you’d have to be of a very specific mindset to still pursue allegations of Nazi affiliation.

So Trump is saying he wants to pivot to tax return next. This one should be even harder for him. How to pay for it?

My guess is that Trump will want some import tariffs which again pits him against the Koch brothers and Freedom Caucus. Maybe removing tax credits for individuals which pits him against regular middle class voters. Maybe cuts to working class programs.

Either way ... delivering a tax cut to the top 10% is either going to fail because they won't agree how to pay for it. Or if they do pass it, it'll be more fuel for the Democratic base.
