PSG should have won that game. Not finishing their chances killed them.

Yep, they wasted too many chances.

And on the other hand, City were both unlucky not to win by more than one and fortunate not to give up a late equalizer.

Meanwhile, Wolfsburg-Lyon ends 0-2. Will be interesting to see whether two away goals is enough for Lyon to go through!

Very important victory for Lyon after a average performance from both teams, I was hoping Wolfsburg to attack for finally give us a great confrontation between the two best European clubs well I was wrong...is the thrid time they meet and all games have been pretty poor so far....
No teams around have what this two got in offense, quality and quantity, but once again the spectacle was ruined by coaches tactical approach, thsi time not only Kellerman but even Precheur "feared" the opposition a little bit too much....Actually I liked the German high pressure forcing OL defenders to take some very inappropriate decision but Wolfsburg forwards weren't clinical enough and Bouhaddi was in a very good day.....I know people LOOOVE to criticize Sarah but the truth is she rarely makes mistakes in big games, never costed an important game to her team.
For OL, aside the too much precautious approach in the first half....changed by Precheur when he decided to play with Morgan, Hegerberg, Le Sommer, Marozsan and Abiy all at the same time... The title holder didn't had a great game, even though they did the "job" which in the end is what really matter.
Players of the match were Bouhaddi, for saving her team on multiple occasion, and Morgan impressive performance on both side of the pitch, an extraordinary performance for physical effort, lucidity, determination, she showed all Europe that she is a true top player with tons of big games experience.
It's a two leg competition so Wolfsburg could still pass, if they score in the first 15 minutes at Lyon is feasible but they'll need to attack so don't know if Kellermann will agree....

Most of the away teams with a pretty clear advantage. Wolfsburg have their work cut out for them in the second leg, while I neither Scandinavian team really showed anything to convince me they have a chance.

PSG-FCB is the interesting one! Bayern were lucky to walk away with the win, and normally I'd expect them to have a hard time hanging onto their advantage in Paris. However, ending last year by beating Lyon with a really pretty goal from Delie, of all people, apparently resulted in such a massive karmic imbalance this entire year's gone to the dogs for them. We'll see!

We'll have to be careful about use of "FCB" here, I think. X-D

This is why I became an Alex Morgan fan. How refreshing to read this, compared to: "she played 90 and didn't score, so she was useless." which is what they would say in the U.S. (especially in the USA WNT Forum here on BS) .

When I mention their opponent too I figure people who read this thread are aware enough to realise which FCB I'm talking about! :)

I had her as the best player on the pitch; great workrate! I'm never happy when Ada gets benched but having Alex run at the WOB defence in the first half worked well too, they couldn't handle her speed whereas Ada well might have got bogged down in wrestling matches.

Then in the second she switched to a winger role and put in some great defensive work, as well as being involved in both goals. We also got her and Blässe just beating each other up, which was fun as well!

I always appreciated her without being a huge fan but her performance against Wolfsburg was very impressive specially in the second half to chase down the German fullback. She clearly was the essential piece of Lyon victory.
They said Ada was not happy at all to be benched, as she even wrote on social media she really wanted to play.....After she came in and gave that assist to Marozsan you could clearly see all her frustration finally calming down.....I know how it feels likes but she's only 21 years old (after all this time still so young!!...) time is on her side, no need to be frustrated.
You perfectly described Morgan tactically perfect second half, her constant chasing down Blasse till the end of game was physically impressive and won the game for OL.

Thanks to you and to @zac13 for the Morgan vs. Blasse clips! I love that stuff. After the game, I can imagine Nilla Fischer telling Blasse: "I told you so." At the #Shebelieves in Philadelphia, Blasse came off before Morgan came on.

She didn't write any such thing, no, unless you've found social media I haven't. She did get interviewed by journalists who asked her how she felt about being benched whereupon she went "obviously I want to play, next question". People who are not her have gone on to post this all over social media and Birmingham supporters have even started a sort-of-campaign (tongue-in-cheek, I'm hoping!) to recruit her so she can play with her sister:

But Ada always wants to play, this is nothing new and has been the case since she was 14 and played for Kolbotn in Toppserien (Norwegian top flight). She's also never made any noise about being benched outside of the locker room (although she probably has yelled at her coaches inside) so I'll be really surprised if she's started doing that now.

That said, there was a lot of noise on social media about Morgan starting over her, but I don't think Ada herself contributed to any of it. Other fairly prominent footballers did, though!

I don't actually know Zach, it's just a guy on Twitter who made gifs from the match and seems to be a huge Morgan fan. If you want to see more you should check out his Twitter, he posted a bunch of other gifs too!

She wrote about the game, specifying the opponent's name even counting the days left on her twitter and instagram account,...which coud ony mean that she was REALLY waiting for it so her disappointment to not start should have been huge, I never said she made noise being benched though....You obviously know her personaity better than I do but from what I know/read/see about her I think you're perfectly right when you say she's the kind of player who always want to play specially those games.....
Ada is on a multiyear contract (till July 2019) so it is more probable that Andrine joins her at OL than the opposite...and Fishlock should really mind her business...

ps: Ada started today and scored but was substituted at half time.

as good as Wolfsburg is, their still not going to be match for Lyon, who can obvious boast the world's strongest lineup, a team that now can even beat any NT out there. After 3 year of giving up the CL to the Bundesliga, Lyon's plan has been two fold

    1)
    a) buy the best players in the world like their new mid season pickups; arguably the best cb in the world like Buchanen & size able Morgans rep.
b; buy off the best players from the top CL competitors, the Bundelsiga(Maorzsan, Bremer, Hegerberg) that way those players wouldn't be used against them

    2) because from top to bottom, the French League is obviously weak( 9 of them are only semi'pro clubs), Lyon has now on it's bench, the 2nd post powerful team in France so at least have strong daily practice sessions. If you don't believe me, take a look at the starting lineup of the last game of last season when they all ready won the league title & played their bench warmers instead. It was good enough to tie the 3rd best team in the league
    http://us.women.soccerway.com/match...minin/montpellier-herault-sport-club/2101597/

but if Lyon wants to spend this kind of money, maybe it's a good thing and more clubs will follow suit and spent on woso,

here's highlights of the BM/PSG game. Nope, the PSG should-of-been scorers weren't trying out for a Laurel & Hardy remake flick & yep, BM always plays this underwhelming

Yea, I misread you, sorry about that! :)
Thought you were saying she complained about not getting playtime after the game, and I could find no evidence of that... and it also seems very out of character for her so I got confused.

You just discovered OL recruitment politics now ?o_O.....EVERY big club buy great players, just like Wolfsburg taking players from its direct competitor..... Lyon (Bussaglia and Dickenmann for your knowledge...) the difference is Abily and co. always play to win while their opponent to not loose ....
Please don't make me start again with D1F being weak....our league is unbalanced but highly demanding on technical/tactical level, some of the very best players who came couldn't play in France because they didn't had the standard required on that two fundamentals aspect of the French way to play......just ask your superstar Megan Rapinoe how easy was D1F.....:D:rolleyes:.

whether at this forum or others. it's been mentioned enough that the bottom eight FD1 teams are basically amateurs. OL has become so strong that's it's bench warmers can beat almost any other team in the league. This happened again just this last weekend when OL blew out Rodez by 8-0. now look at the lineup of that game
    http://us.women.soccerway.com/match...-lyonnais-feminin/rodez-aveyron-foot/2298603/

resting/not playing were Morgan, Abily, Marozsan, Majri, Renard, Buchanan, Le Sommer, Kumagai. Only playing half a game were Bremer, Hegerberg, Thomis

compare that to the Bundesliga;s #1 & #3 teams, TP & BM, each winning their last league games by the respective scores of 1-0(and that was using most it's regular starters)

dson't know why you always pick on Megan Rapinoe, Last time she played for OL was three years ago. Her league, goal stats was average, or better on par to some of the other outside or defensive mids of the team; 2013-14 season/league stats

Rapinoe; 3 goals in 474 minutes = 1 goal in every 138 min. of play

Necib; 4 goals in 1440 minutes = 1 goal in every 360 min. of play

Henry; 3 goals in 1527 minutes = 1 goal in every 528 min. of play

Are we really trying to use one player as "representative" of the whole again? Weak. Rapinoe isn't the only American to have played on one of France's top 2 teams, much less the only American to have played in France as all...
Not to mention that "not fitting in to a league" =/= "not talented enough for the league".

LOL it seems the Wolfsburg vs Lyon match went as I expected it would (hmmmm well, without Hansen having much effect on proceedings...), and once again Ralf Kellermann ends up showcasing the same head scratching tactical inflexibility he's done EVERY time his team takes the field vs this one particular opponent too...

Wolfsburg were successfully utilizing a 3-4-3 since the resumption of their league play, and yet Kellermann reverts back to a 4-4-2 vs Lyon AGAIN lol, dropping the form Wullaert to the bench, expecting/hoping his overworked CM two would compete/contain Marozsan - Abiliy - Kumagai all on their own... yeah, not smart.

Plus I don't know what it is about Bayern, but seriously... to me they will often look like the most average, boring, overrated team you've ever seen competing among the domestic elite, and yet always find a way to sneak positive results thanks to their coaches getting the best from the one or two key players he posses (This season that's just Miedema) in the starting line up.

Yeah, however you could also highlight the 8 goals Wolfsburg and Potsdam have both respectively slammed past Leverkusen's weak ass defense this season too lol.

It's when you see a host of Junior world champions, 3 UCL winners, and a senior WC winner all on a bottom rung Leverkusen's team sheet though, that you begin to gain a better perspective on why each week you'll find the heavy Lyon like scorelines the abnormality never the norm in the German league.

I mean were watching Marozsan star for Lyon right now having already won a UCL title, playing in two finals in total, being the main part of a gradually middling Frankfurt side that hadn't won a single league title since 2008! lol.

...using just Marozsan to make a comparison is as bad as using just Rapinoe to make a comparison...

I was surprised at how flat Rosengard was today. Barcelona were the better team in this tie and advanced deservedly.
