It was reported that US youth player Jose Carranza has left DC United to join the Carolina RailHawks. Looks like this is just a training stint to prep for European trials. http://www.soccerwire.com/news/club...ted-academy-to-train-with-carolina-railhawks/ Carranza is highly unlikely to ever see match action for the RailHawks. Multiple sources tell SoccerWire that the Manassas, Virginia native is simply training with Carolina before jetting off to Europe to go on trial at professional clubs on the continent later this year. DOB is January 18, 1999, so he'll be eligible to sign overseas in January. http://www.ussoccer.com/players/2014/03/15/05/02/jose-carranza#tab-1
Detail from a site that also had some good coverage of Junior Florse: Manassas resident Jose Carranza is training this week with the NASL’s Carolina RailHawks in preparation for a chance to play professional soccer in Europe. Carranza leaves Friday for a pro-team trial in Holland. The 17-year-old midfielder chose to practice with the RailHawks to get a taste of professional soccer as a tune up before heading to Europe. Carranza will not play in any games for Carolina. http://www.insidenova.com/sports/ma...cle_f97e5ee6-802a-11e6-9ce9-773a9798e817.html
Carranza was back with the YNTs earlier this month. No idea what's next for him: http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/201...raining-camp-with-friendlies-vs-florida-clubs He graduates HS next year and turns 18 in January. http://dcut.ussoccerda.com/sam/teams/index.php?team=1400306&player=28725405
http://www.insidenova.com/sports/ma...al&utm_source=twitter&utm_campaign=user-share Carranza has visited the undisclosed club in the Netherlands twice and might make another visit there in January before a decision is made by the club. If the Holland team does not sign him, Carranza has other options. Carranza worked out in April for four German clubs, with one continuing to follow him. A team from Portugal has expressed interest in Carranza as have the NASL’s Carolina RailHawks. Carranza will attend a RailHawks’ combine Dec. 9-11 and then remain there afterward to work out with the team’s development squad.
I've scanned the Dutch and German press over the last few weeks looking for leads on this, but haven't found anything -- I basically just wait for InsideNoVa to publish its next story...
Nope, as Vitesse is in the KNVB financial category 2 and close to the category 1 with its close scruteny for financial behaviour and with the threat of revoking the license if you donot get out of it within 3 years, a 200 k €€ minimum salary for an unproven prospect of 18 years isnot something they will jump in. I cannot imagine what club could be the supposed one, as there is no chance to trial without any eye spotting an unfamiliar face.
I don't know either, but the supposed trial in Holland was reported to have happened in September/October, so at this point if this is really happening it could be in the negotiation stage rather than the trial stage. I couldn't find any mention of clubs in the fall either.
If it would be Feyenoord, they could trial without eyes watching in the first two weeks of januari, as Feyenoord goes for the winterbreak to Spain to train behind closed doors. Traditionally promising youth players are being taken along to give them an intense try out to see if they are ready to join the troops.
He seems to have the same agency as Sebastian Des Pres and Anthony Wright among others. https://twitter.com/RMG_Soccer
18th birthday. Boehm seems to have some info, but he's not sharing. (The original tweet came from Jose's management company). USYNTer, former #DCU academy kid; I expect to see him sign with a notable European club very soon. https://t.co/Tg2vbaNHa1— Charles Boehm (@cboehm) January 18, 2017
His agency has tweeted about coming transfer news a couple times this month, though I haven't seen announcements yet. And of course, they might not have to do with him. (Same one as Des Pres.) In any case, this has felt a bit like a "wait for the birthday" story, so -- happy birthday, young man.
He was listed as a sub for a recent NCFC friendly against Atlas. From the inbox: Starting lineups: NCFC: Brian Sylvestre; Steven Miller, Connor Tobin, Christian Ibeagha, Paul Black; James Marcelin, Lance Laing, Austin da Luz, Nazmi Albadawi, Brian Shriver; Matt Fondy Substitutes: Andre Fortune; Michael Mecham; Kareem Moses; Marcel Kandziora; Saeed Robinson; Jonathon Orlando; Billy Schuler; Jose Carranza; Macklin Robinson; Delasi Batse; Alex Molano
Signed an academy deal. From the inbox: Carranza is an 18-year-old midfielder who is coming to North Carolina Football Club from the Academy team of D.C. United of Major League Soccer. The Manassas, Virginia native played for their U-16 and U-18 academy teams, where he started in 20 games throughout the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 seasons. Carranza came up through the ranks for the United States, playing for their U-14 though U-18 teams. He was recently one of only 28 players invited to train at the U-18 Men’s National Team 2017 training camp from Jan. 23-30 in Bradenton, Florida. In addition, Carranza was a standout performer for the U.S. U-18 MNT in August in the international Vaclav Jezek Tournament, where he scored twice under the guidance of North Carolina FC assistant coach, Dewan Bader, who was an assistant coach for the team. “To me, this means a beginning to a good season and hopefully a good career,” Carranza said. “The guys have brought me in as one of their own and have been treating me well. I think I’m going to learn a lot here. Playing Atlas in front of a big crowd on Wednesday with my name on my jersey for the first time, it was an amazing feeling and I got a little taste of the pro-life.”
So what happened? Thats so strange. There's no way this guy isn't good enough to at least sign with an MLS team. Could've signed somewhere in Europe also.
NCFC is the NASL side formerly known as the Carolina Railhawks. It is who Nick Taitague trained and played with while biding his time waiting to go to Germany.
Some key differences here between this and some relevant comparable cases: Taitague wasn't 18, so he arguably needed to park himself somewhere for a while. Carranza's 18 and can theoretically sign more or less anywhere. Haji Wright (who also wasn't 18 when he signed with the Cosmos) signed a pro deal. This is an academy contract. I sort of figure that Carranza could more or less walk from this whenever. If Carranza wants to sign in MLS, he probably has to sign with DCU. Wright was similarly limited. Taitague presumably would've had to go GA.
