I blame this loss on Quinteros. Changes at the 80' something minute. Oyola? Really? Committed two stupid fouls and he came in late. Naboa... probably the worst game half I have seen from him. W Ayovi... why is he called up again? He sucked. Provided no attack or defending. He let that cross in that cause the goal. I hate that attacking formation. No creativity because Enner can't play wing.

And my biggest concern ending up being true. Our fullbacks sucked and allowed Paraguay to just sit back.

Ayovi needs to go. I don't care if he has experience because his body is done. Quinteros takes the blame too for not making changes earlier.

Hopefully Ramirez is ready for the Colombia match because I don't want to see Ayovi standing on the sides like an idiot anymore.

The team played with no identity today, they just stood around waiting to lose the ball either by giving it up or waiting for someone to come from behind and take it. Simply put Paraguay gave it their 110% while Ecuador gave it their 10%. No communication at all. Ecuador has a bad record in Paraguay but these guys flat out sucked today all these guys were coming from great moments and none of them showed up. We have no Noboa or Bolanos next match and there no one good to replace them. Cazares should have been called up. No one individual has the blame the whole team does.

I'm personally mad that Paraguay was able to play their game because our fullbacks didn't push up much and allowed them to isolate our wings so easily.

And having no width meant Caicedo had to constantly take on 3 defenders at once.

As with everything in life, this comes down to mindset. I just don't get how a team that has everything to win comes out without direction. I just can't understand Quinteros putting in players that don't play in their clubs. Ayovi was getting beat easily. Don't we have a better option?

I can guarantee you guys will beat Colombia. I find your team very repititve offensively but at least you create plays. Colombia doesn't create shit or defend. You'll win 2 or 3 to 0.

Uninspiring performance. Someone said this already but Quinteros is really testing the patience of everyone.

We have to win against Colombia or we are pretty much out of eliminatorias IMO.

We are done my friend I assure you. Quote me on this "We will not go to Russia" all of our NT success has not come from having superstars but from being a very disciplined and hard working team, Quinteros destroyed that and our players have lost that fire they had inside.

I have that feeling right now as well. I can almost say I want to cosign this, but I don't want to think it will be true.

Did anyone hear Quintero's speech after the game? Did this guy REALLY just say "si yo hacia los cambios mas temprano, igual no me hubieran servido de nada.". He REALLY just said that his players were worthless when questioned about why he put them in so late. This dude really said it didn't matter WHEN they came in b/c they're useless to change the game. I have NEVER in my life heard an Ecuadorian NT coach discredit his players like this. Considering the great moment lots of them are having individually at club level this is ridiculous to say.

You play Walter Ayovi when the BEST left back in the country is Mario Pineida having an excellent growth in the last few seasons. Consistent as ever since forever. Ramirez (although injured) doing great in Russia from the get-go. And you're saying we don't have options??? Insisting on Walter Ayovi??? WTF is wrong with you! I understood why Mina started, but if you saw him doing horrible in the 1 or 2 training sessions with the NT, why did you start him? Achilier is having an excellent moment as captain of Morelia. Paredes we HAVE to start b/c Ramirez is injured- that's understandable.

    My rating:
    Dreer 2, Paredes 4, Caicedo 6, Mina 0, Walter 2; Noboa 4, Orejuela 7; Antonio 5, Miller 2, Enner 2; Felipe 7

The only two players that stood out are Felipe and Orejuela. Everyone else was completely horrible. We are about to face the team that I consider the ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT for us to win in Quito- Colombia. They have ALWAYS given us a hard time just like Uruguay. Fingers crossed for next game, but there must be MAJOR changes in the line up. Miller and Noboa suspended. Would've been ideal for a name like Cevallos Jr. and Juan Cazares or Junior Sornoza to be on there. This idiot Quinteros calls up Bagui instead of Velasco. NO COMMON SENSE. Quinteros discredits his players. I think that was the point where I stepped back and stopped being a fan of his.

About yesterday's game there's a few reasons why I think we lost playing horribly:

    1. Dreer was at fault in both goals. He horribly planned out his timing when coming out to clear the ball and didn't have any communication with Mina. Both players at fault here, but mostly Dreer b/c Mina was IN POSITION....Dreer came out of position and FAILED at his job. Dreer 90% responsible for the first goal, if not more. When a keeper comes out they must communicate it clearly and only come out when they are CERTAIN 150% that it's THEIR BALL. That wasn't communicated in this occasion. Second goal- The player who is 30% at fault here is the one that let the Paraguayan player shoot. I need to go see the replay. The second player at fault is Dreer who let the rebound go in front of him allowing the second goal to be an easy task to net (he is mostly at fault in this goal as well). And third- JC Paredes had to close in on the play and mark his man....did he do this? No.

    2. Lack of effective wing play. If there's one thing that is considered our strength, it's wing play. For the wings to function properly, the wingers must be accompanied throughout their plays by the full backs for a more effective result. Was this the case? NO. Paredes was absent in accompanying Antonio in any forward play up the field and Walter NEVER connected well with Enner. There was total disconnection between fullbacks and wingers and in a 4-2-3-1 that CANNOT happen. Why did Enner and Antonio have bad games? This is the answer. It was them against the world and they kept losing possession b/c they had no assistance in their wing play.

    3. Noboa was shut down. Anytime Noboa is shut down completely and we have no wing play ON TOP of him being absent in the game it's total chaos. Noboa had very few opportunities to launch a ball over to Miller, Enner, Antonio, or Felipe into an open space b/c they were always being covered.....if not, he was always being covered. Miller RARELY pushed back to connect with Orejuela and Noboa AS HE SHOULD b/c he should play the role of play maker through the center. Especially in occasions like these where we have no other way out. Did this happen? No.

    4. What happened to Quinteros' HIGH PRESSURE futbol? I saw NONE of that yesterday. We let the Paraguayans play....and as horribly as they play, they were still able to defeat us b/c we did NOTHING to stop them.

Those are the reasons why we lost in my book. Oh, and the fact that Quinteros has no confidence in our guys. Came out of his own mouth. SMH....we loose against Colombia and CHAO Mundial.

My line up vs Colombia for ALL OR NOTHING is the following:

Dreer; Paredes, Caicedo, Achilier, Pineida; Oyola, Orejuela; Antonio, Mena, Marcos; Felipe

I'm being drastic starting Pineida, Marcos, and Oyola for the first time, but at least all of them (besides Pineida) have played Qualifiers.

Wow. I can't believe Quinteros put down his players like that. I don't want to sound alarmist but he should be fired for that. That pretty much destroyed everyone's confidence on the NT. Wow.

After a day of reflecting (and calming down lol) I agree with everyone saying this loss is on Quinteros. Any decent coach will play players who are playing well and actually getting playing time consistently (meaning no Paredes and Ayovi). His call-ups should have also kept in mind we had several players on suspension danger and called up players who can replace them without facing a heavy drop in quality.

Also, I gave him the benefit of the doubt but I can't stand him anymore. Not only are his subs horrible but his decisions overall are horrible. It took him until midway of the qualifiers to incorporate the Independiente players and now he throws his own players under the bus.

I agree. The turning point for me being a support of Quinteros was last night. Not because of HOW we played but because this man literally discredited and low key said his players were useless. The media NEEDS TO HIGHLIGHT THIS?? How is it ok to discredit your players to this degree?? WTF!

The ironic thing is that he himself is the one who called them. And it's not like Ecuador doesn't have talent coming up in all areas (except GK), it's that Quinteros continues calling and starting players who have no business in the starting lineup.

I swear we were better with Rueda. What the hell happened in those games we won at the very beginning? Why can't we play like that anymore?

I said this in the CONMEBOL thread but this is the right time for Fafaco to come back :ROFLMAO:

Good luck though. I've only seen you in the games played in Quito so I don't know how bad you've been away, but it has to be dreadful it its worse than what Colombia have been. For the sake of my team I hope for a draw there but I can't past Ecuador here.

Cristian Ramirez should play in my opinion. Looks quite a talent.

Sornoza and Cazares assisting and scoring in Brazil while the NT needs goals........... hmmmmm. That makes so much sense.
