Friendlies can cap-tie a player, however if a player has only played in friendlies and had dual citizenship (or was eligible for it) prior to playing those friendlies, then he/she can apply for a one-time switch.
Ghana will resume WCQs with a different coach: http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/news/y...to-step-down-as-ghana-head-coach-2866579.html
Far from a surprise here. Ghana is in serious trouble. Needed a strong showing in the AfCoN to bolster chances in qualifying and they didn't get one. All this did was reassert a downward spiral that may take them out of the running for 2018. Cameroon did what they needed to do. Senegal is hardly affected but are in a fight with SA, who have nothing to lose from this point. For SA's part, their AfCoN qualifier with Nigeria takes on a double purpose for their second half of WC qualifying as well as getting a jump on 2019 with an away win much like Nigeria did in Zambia. For their part, Nigeria isn't the stepping-stone that Zambia is, but Zambia has shown quality since. And a win in Nigeria is a huge coup if they can get it. Even a point would put them in the driver's seat going forward. Hopefully, there are no pull-outs which might affect the integrity of the competition and leave the second qualifier at a disadvantage.
Figured as much.. South Africa's WCQ result over Senegal had everything to do with shoddy(to put it lightly) refereeing. Where's that user that referenced this fixed game as a debilitating point for Senegal during their ACN campaign? Look foolish now.
@Wandile So I guess we were all right... South Africa's result against Senegal was an utter fluke. Shame you put a lot of stock in that game.
Rather it's not the game itself but totality of his recent career. That's why the other match officials who officiated the South Africa game were cleared. Senegal were bettered in the game by South Africa and that's a fact. Was it a penalty? No... everybody knows that...but in real time it sure looked like one. That's was the only real controversial decision of the whole match. SAs second goal was an example of Senegal being sliced and diced open with flair and beauty. No cheating there. In their last three meetings (the Sadio Mane generation) South Africa have won twice against Senegal and drawn once (which in that match South Africa took the lead). The pattern of SA vs Senegal games is SA takes the lead and Senegal plays catch up. That is just a fact of recent history. I wonder if you actually watched that match because I did.
"everybody knows that" "but in real time it sure looked like one" No.. it was a fixed match. We're calling a spade, a spade.
There is the return leg this year. Watch Senegal fail to beat SA and right now SA doesn't even have a coach and they still won't beat us
Did you watch the match??? SA were better than Senegal. Easily... Senegal had a surge in the last 20 mins when SA tactics changed to consolidate their 2-0 lead... The penalty was the only shady decision and to be honest, I see worse decision made in the English premier league week in and week out
In real time almost everyone called for a penalty. It was atrocious in replays yes The game wasn't a landslide victory but SA we're definitely better on the day. I don't think anyone can deny it. On the day Senegal were not at the best and that's just a fact. Senegal only effective tactic was "lob the ball" and that was helped by SAs decision to sit back and protect their 2-0 lead...
Seems as if for the time being (now ex) Cameroonian stallwart in defense, Joel Matip, has retired from International futbol. Looks like it stems from a rift between him and the Cameroon federation.
Nigeria and Senegal draw. The new guard looking much better than the old guard. Iwobi however was a dissapointment. Isaac Success still has a world class player in there, but he needs to win a starting slot at club level. Ndidi was brilliant. He is progressing leaps and bound and in this rate he will be mentioned in the same sentence as Pogba or Kante sooner than later. --- New look Cote d'Ivoire dominate and beat Russia in Moscow. Good win for them. No Aurier (injured?). Russia though... Gbouhouo - Bagayoko, Kanon, Bailly, Deli - Die, Doukoure, Kessie - Sio, Zaha - Kodjia Goals: 30' Kodjia, 70' Zaha Great Zaha (debut?) goal.
Not looking good Guinea and Amadou Diawara. The Guinean born and raised player is looking to get an Italian passport and may jump ship to Italy. Naby Keita - Paul Pogba - Amadou Diawara could have been one hell of a midfield...
South Africa won 3-1 against Guniea-Bassau in Durban yesterday. The new look squad with many younger faces played a beautiful game and bossed proceedings. The new coach has a good foundation to work with. Keegan Dolly (Montpellier), Percy Tau (Sundowns), Kamohelo Mokotjo (FC Twente), Kermit Erasmus (Stade Rennes but on loan to Lens), Lorenzo Gordinho (Kaizer Chiefs), Phakamani Mahlambi (Bidvest Wits), Luther Singh (Braga), Bongani Zungu (Victoria Guimares) and many more young players locally and in europe.. the team is coming together This stretches South Africa's unbeaten run to 16 games. A new national record. South Africa last tasted defeat in 2015 to Angola in a CHAN qualifier. Coincidentally they play Angola on Tuesday in the Eastern Cape.
Luther Singh may finally be the Benni McCarthy replacement you've been looking for for years... A bit lightweight, but he knows where the goal is. Will be waiting to see him play at the U20 World Cup.
Obvious space to include more qualifiers in a revamped system. It will be interesting to see how many international breaks CAF skips for various reasons and what could be done with them under different setups.
