Any thoughts on whether the Board of Aldermen will approve the deal? Still would have to pass a public vote too, but the Board is the first step.

A ticket tax was added to the proposal. It would generate between $7.5 million to $12 million into city general revenue. Money initially dedicated to developer Paul McKee is also added to this project. The rest of the stadium budget is from a use tax. Now it goes to the Board of Aldermen for approval. If it passes then a judge has to act to get it on the April ballot.

Meanwhile, the soccer stadium financing agreement putting $60 million in public money toward the project was approved 4-3. SC STL, the group of investors aiming to bring a Major League Soccer franchise to St. Louis, would pay $95 million for the stadium, as well as pick up any shortfalls in city revenue going toward the payments, construction cost overruns and maintenance of the facility for 30 years.

Except for places that people actually live near.

Ignoring the fact that the preceding post was obviously tongue in cheek, and ignoring the fact that the proposed stadium would be far too small for a National Stadium, your comment is baffling.

St. Louis MA has 3 million people
There are 15+ Million within 250 miles.

But, more importantly, a sell out is a sell out.
A sellout for the USNT would occur at numerous centrally located cities and great for traveling fans

Thanks for trying to "cover" for me, but I actually was being somewhat serious. Not to say that I don't make my share of "dumb" posts, but I don't think this was one of them.

I just did not realize that the proposed stadium would be so small. If the USA were to have a "National" stadium, it would have to be about 50K+ and satisfy these conditions: 1) be in the center of the country, 2) be conducive to pro-USA fan support and 3) be in a location that has a history of USA soccer. St Louis would be the ideal location if the fantasy of a national stadium ever came about.

40 million people live within 150 miles of Philadelphia. Any national stadium, hypothetical or not, would need to be on a coast.

    Why?
Why should a National Stadium be difficult to get to for a large portion of the country?

More to the point, why should St. Louis be without an MLS team?

Why should any of the other potential expansion cities be without an MLS team? Most of the expansion bids are pretty strong right now and it's going to be a matter of degrees to decide which group wins..

ST. LOUIS • A circuit court judge has paved the way for St. Louis to vote on funding a soccer stadium, bolstering hopes of attracting a Major League Soccer franchise to the city.

Judge Michael Mullen on Thursday also ordered a related ballot proposition, a half-cent sales tax increase to fund MetroLink expansion, to appear on the April 4 ballot with the MLS proposal.

i would think that the stadium funding being linked to a transit expansion is a very good thing- if it had have had to stand on its own, voters probably would have turned it down

SC STL, the group working to bring Major League Soccer to St. Louis, announced on Tuesday a sweeping – and unprecedented – new Community Benefits Agreement with the city as part of its MLS expansion bid and proposed downtown soccer stadium.

Agreed in advance of the proposed stadium ordinance and financing agreement that will be decided by voters in the April 4 city election, the CBA accompanies SC STL’s $255 million-plus investment in the proposed 20,000-seat multipurpose MLS venue, to be located near St. Louis Union Station.

I don't think I have ever seen a "new stadium" rendering with so many empty seats depicted before......it probably doesn't matter...and I am certainly not making any comment on the viability of MLS in STL.....but it is, to me, interesting they would show that many empties when play is apparently on in that rendering.
