After I prove that I'm right and you're wrong I insult you.

Mainly because you refuse to accept the facts and instead push your silly agenda.

Lets tone it down boys. Lets be civil.

While I think Miami's ownership is questionable, the old argument of blaming the city as a non-sports town has be shown to be false in the past.

Early on there was news. Between the 3 failed stadium site locations and the ordeal with the location next to the Marlins. Then they got part of the property in overtown. But yea, nothing meaningful for a long time.

Sometimes bad press is just bad press.
3 failed stadium location attempts and from the talk going on now possibly a 4th.

Here is a link to an old story when Overtown was first announced. It is old but it is handy. The story plots out the locations of the three sites that didn't work out and the one currently being worked on. It also has links to past stories when those sites were being pursued. It kind of brings it all together for anyone who wants to get up to speed fasts with the reporting that was done locally.

    http://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/community/miami-dade/article47939140.html

For the record, the Overtown site isn't dead yet. The recent stuff being reported is just quotes from the public officials expressing their anxiety over not having heard back from Beckham's group. They haven't pulled the plug on the site just yet.

So in terms of news, that is where they're at right now. Nothing more or less. I think we're all anxious to get this thing off the ground and as people with an interest in the city succeeding we began speculating and then the thread went in a bad direction.

Im all honesty though, will this site work as well? They have to vote to close the street between the two blocks, that actually leads to Spring something (rich neighborhood hidden in a bad one), thise people were freaking the F out at the town hall meeting regarding the stadium. Plus i pick up my wife at medical campus MDC on wednesdays at around 8/830, the area is teaming with shady people in the streets at night.. im willing to go to games but only me i aint taking the wife or my kid... and with the Southern Legion (big group)

The safety thing is silly. If it was true then there would be practically zero stadiums built in urban centers in this country. The same thing was said about the Orange Bowl and the Miami Arena.

I have a feeling the city/county are just posturing with their latest statements. They are trying to get more out of Beckham than what they are getting currently. Its not dead yet, but if this site falls through, I think their bid is over.

The part that is the most worrisome to me is the officials saying they haven't heard from Beckham's group in months. Never a good sign.

Getting stadiums built in Miami has never been easy and post-2012 is even more difficult. It was 15 years after the Marlins began pushing for a park before they played a game in their new place. In that time they went through three different ownership groups, numerous sites, and some failed votes from the County Commissioners. It is really hard work and we can talk about attendance all day, but that isn't what gets a deal done. Getting the politicians to vote or sell or act in whatever manner they need to act in order to make a project like this happen takes a lot of influence and pressure from forces inside and outside of government. Three years may seem like a long time for this project but it could be a lot worse.

Regarding the location, there is a clear "revitalization" angle to it. That may or may not work. The proximity to the metro rail is a nice feature. Fans traveling from the south can ride up from any number of stops along US-1, and folks coming from the north/west can pick it up at the terminus on the west of the Palmetto. So public transit access is pretty good by Florida standards. But, this is their fourth choice. The first two were waterfront locations which would suggest Overtown isn't what Beckham and the league had in mind when the option was exercised. The Marlins Park site failure was a good thing. There is no reason to shoehorn another stadium next to that facility (which is going to cost a fortune). We're not in the final hours. If Miami politics has taught me anything it is that we shouldn't bury the project yet and nothing should come as a surprise..

Question...with the NFL owners approving the Raiders move to Las Vegas today, does that make it more or less likely Miami Beckham United becomes Las Vegas Beckham United?

I dont know if Vegas wants to go from 0 teams to 3 over night. I would caution MLS on a Vegas team.

Possible 4 teams over night. The owner of the MGM is trying to get a NBA team in the market.

I'm for it. I'm tired of waiting for Miami to join. Vegas can pull a Seattle/Atlanta and have a dual purpose stadium with high averages which would help the league. Furthermore, no one in Miami really wants to go to sporting events and would much rather go to the gym, parties, and beaches. Trust me, I've worked there.

It matters much, if you didnt grow up. You can not relate to the city. In turn you can not have the pride and passion behind it. So it is obviously easy for someone to work in a city, live in a city that is not of their origin and say, they dont deserve a team. This city is soccer city USA, gateways to the americas. Im sure where you are from there is either no melting pot like this one. Miami is one and only papa

Wow... That is truly terrible. So people have to have grown up and continued to live in Miami proper to fully understand it. Oh, and you can only say positive things about the city and MLS.

Hmm, I grew up in Broward. Is that close enough to have an opinion? And I haven't lived there for quite some time. I wonder if that disqualifies me.

If Miami is Soccer City USA, why have they not had an MLS team playing in Miami until now? Why has there not been a lower division club draw big numbers like others have (Orlando, Indy, Cincinnati, Sacramento)?

You know Miami demographics, mr. 954, Miami is full of South america, central america, and carribeans. They all have their ties back home to their teams, now their offspring (next generation) are growing up saying they are American and not claming they are from their parents country.

MLS was not to world standards back then, backward clock, shoot outs, etc. Ever since they began woth the transformation of a FIFa Sanctioned league, i new they would grow to a way better league And they are not done yet.
Miami will get MLS and they will be flagship team because of the connection they will have tobthe international market. MIAMI is the gateway to the americas, you'll see hersey not only in Miami but around the globe.

Who would have thought that Las Vegas would have two major league sports franchises before the Miami Beckhams even gets off the ground?
