NPSL, as a national league, was given the option and elected to bypass the local qualifying process, instead using 2015 league results to determine their entrants to the 2016 Open Cup tournament.
13 NPSL teams qualified via this national league track:
New York Cosmos B (Championship Game Winner)
    Chattanooga FC (Championship Game Finalist)
    CD Aguiluchos USA (Playoff Semifinalist)
    Indiana Fire (Playoff Semifinalist)
    AFC Cleveland (Playoff Quarterfinalist)
    Clarkstown SC Eagles (Playoff Quarterfinalist)
    Myrtle Beach Mutiny (Playoff Quarterfinalist)
    Sacramento Gold (Playoff Quarterfinalist)
    Atlanta Silverbacks Reserves (At-Large Berth)
    FC Wichita (At-Large Berth)
    Fredericksburg FC (At-Large Berth)
    Miami Fusion FC (At-Large Berth)
New York Athletic Club (At-Large Berth)

The Atlanta Silverbacks Reserves, which played last season in the NPSL’s Southeast Conference, will now simply be known as the Atlanta Silverbacks. The team will move to the NPSL’s South Atlantic Conference.
The new Atlanta Silverbacks ownership group will include Boris Jerkunica, John Latham, John Hardin, United Futbol Academy (UFA), and A+ Sports Management Group (A+). UFA and A+ will assume the operations of the Atlanta Silverbacks, as both the men (NPSL) and the women (WPSL) will return this summer.

The Atlanta Silverbacks are South Atlantic Conference champions thanks to Saturday’s 2-1 overtime win over Tobacco Road FC at Silverbacks Park. Atlanta’s Mitch Garcia was named Man of the Match as he scored the game-tying goal in the 88th minute.
Silverbacks now play Miami United FC on Saturday, July 16 at Milander Stadium in the next round of the playoffs.
