Good news. No more 5 subs rule. It's true. The #USL will move to the three-substitutes rule in 2017: https://t.co/NXPXJyfakQ pic.twitter.com/PCf1PSJhpO— Nicholas Murray (@NJEMurray) October 29, 2016 Well... bad news for Adu I guess.
I heard that not only is the Rowdies Den being sold by Edwards but the Janus Live block is close to selling as well. Apparently, St Pete needs more condos than we know what to do with... With MacDinton's as part of the sale, where will we go for early morning EPL action and insults from our favorite Liverpool bartender, Tara.
No link since it hasn't closed - just scuttle butt from several connected managers at restaurants on the block. Not sure how long the leases are for Janus but I know that they are still building out the old Angie's spot so it may be a change of ownership and then a 1-2yr wait until they are clear to demo. Official paper article about Fords Garage replacing the Rowdies Den. Opens summer 2017. http://www.tampabay.com/things-to-d...rowdies-den-in-downtown-st-petersburg/2301771
Yeah, right...how is this a win for the fans? I see only one winner here. It was nice while it lasted though.
To change the subject...it appears, according to The Guardian that, our Mr. Bill Edwards is/maybe going to sue NASL for its continued shenanigans with Traffic Sports. Its all starting to make a little more sense. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...-of-nasl-dark-times-for-us-soccers-wild-child
Fun Fact: We have been officially removed from the NASL web page (stats stay) and the Rowdies web page under going modifications adding USL News and 3 Part series on Eastern Conference Opponents. Banner add on USL web site. I guess it would be time to move "these posts" to USL forum? Fun times...
I find it odd that the Rowdies are selling season tickets for next season without revealing a schedule yet. The season ticket email notes there will be at least 16 home games tho. I can't wait to plunk down $950 for my midfield seats /sarc/
Teams in all sports market season tickets long before their schedules come out. It's not like you're going to plunk down your money and then find out in January that most home games are on Tuesdays at 2:30 in the afternoon.
That's unfortunate. I was hoping to get there on my next trip home. Restaurants are tough businesses, man.
I had not heard good things, actually. I just wanted to check it out. We have so few soccer-themed places anywhere. But restaurants are businesses, and what's cool and what works aren't always compatible.
Maybe Ford's Garage can still incorporate enough soccer flavor to still be the landing spot for fans, but as Duke said earlier it probably prices out some.
On FB they are pimping a 'historic ' announcement on Dec 6. Any guesses what it might be? Anything I would consider historic would be out of left field : MLS , a complete overhaul of the stadium, a new ownership member. Please let it be Jeff Vinik taking controlling interest . Not very likely for several reasons .
Not moving back to Hillsborough after all the work they have done on Al Lang. Edwards does not have MLS-level cash. And they would be kind of behind a few other areas on the pecking order. (Though with St. Louis apparently in the mix, that next wave is already underway.) Vinik would be great, obvs, but I would imagine he would want the team to play near Amalie and that can't happen anytime soon. Maybe they are going to re-retire the number 7 that had been retired and that they ignored at re-launch. I don't know. Your guess is as good as mine.
I also don't see them heading across the bay as long as Edwards is calling the shots. He has strong ties to the Burg. Somehow I doubt it is MLS . ... yet. If he had eyes on a MLS push, why move to the USL? I would love to see them in the top flight but the competition is stiff and he would need a big money man. Vinik has a pretty full plate redeveloping nearly every desirable piece of real estate in downtown Tampa. Jeff taking a shine to the Rowdies would be a wet dream. This could be close to the mark. Re-retiring Steve's number would fit the historic angle. So would retiring another number. I am not big on retiring numbers but it is crap that Wegerle was lost in the shuffle when they ressurectted the brand. Of course it wasn't the only thing they botched. The only other historic type announcements I could fathom would be possibly a return to the traditional kit but they have used it on and off already so hardly worthy of the hype. I will go out on a limb: The return of the Wowdies!
