I think Bruce decided he wanted to save his best players for the all important USOC than to squander their energy and health on a meaningless friendly......

"Steven Gerrard was a much better tourist than a player in LA" https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2016/nov/15/steven-gerrard-los-angeles-galaxy-career-mls
Reactions here are a bit over the top. We all wish it could've been better on the field but our problems run much deeper than replacing him with another midfielder, and we did get some production out of him. And he seems to have been a great locker room guy and mentor. Silver linings, but ultimately I don't think anyone will be too sad to see him go. Not one of our better DP signings but above the level of JPA.
Agreed. Except when you operate by the DP rule, you live and down on the field by it. Get it right (Donovan, Beckham, Keane) you win a lot of trophies, get it wrong (Keane, Gerrard, Dos Santos) you don't win squat. And since the DP's get the biggest bucks, they also get the biggest blame...
The biggest problem with Gerrard is that we blew up a successful Juninho-Sarvas pairing to get him. Then we brought in a world class defensive midfielder to make him work. It didn't and then we allowed that player to move away after 6 months. We've moved around so much, handcuffed ourselves, gotten rid of players, had to plan tactics to minimize his glaring flaws, etc just to get him into the team such that we cannot judge just his play on the field (which for a DP, much less a $6.5m DP, has been disappointing). His signing represents so much more than that, even if it isn't his fault. More than anything I hope it represents a HUGE lesson learned for the FO.
That's no big deal. Steven "Chelsea Stumble" Gerrard couldn't damage the Galaxy any worse than he did when he wore a Galaxy jersey.
Steven Gerrard & MK Dons in contact over vacant managerial role. If it happens, it's a bold move by Gerrard. In bottom 3 of Lge 1 & not a popular club for many in the game. Certainly not taking easy route. https://t.co/rbBhrlPjF6— Arlo White (@arlowhite) November 17, 2016
I've seen he has been linked...Not even after a good season last season? I think a lot of this forum is anti Premier League players
Actually not a "bold" move, a safe and smart one. If the team fails, can't really blame it on SG as they stunk when he got there. If he does anything positive, he's a miracle worker. Either way, he gets some hands on experience and gets to see if coaching really is a career path that makes sense for him. I doubt he needs the money - it's more a matter of learning what he wants to do. Hats off to him for making an intelligent decision.
