When all else fails lets just do what is often done on here. Lets just assume the worst and give meaning to the story
Maybe after the great successes they've had there the assistants took the Kentucky job as co-head coaches.
Is the Nova coaching change for certain? One of my club players is committed for 18'. She is freaking out - recruits read this then most realize. She is unsure if she should reach out to Fran - I really don't even know how to advise. He is still listed and no mention on the website.
Assistant coach at Villanova has been emailing the committed kids about Fran's departure. Your kid should email the assistant as well if she hasn't gotten anything yet.
So that's happening huh? Fran didn't seem to know recently. Seems Miller put the blame for lack of success significantly on his assistants and the admin told him to make a change. That is shocking for a head coach to throw assistants under the bus like that. For a coach to betray people like that shows some of the douchebags that get to run college soccer programs.
May not have been his decision or him blaming them.... but that way of thinking wouldn't make this forum fun to read, would it?
Their are a lot more "douchebag" parents & administrators than all the coaches combined. I'd include you in that group with a name like collegewhispers
Very witty. Once the assistants were blindsided as you can imagine they spoke to others in the college game they know. Word gets around. One of the two assistants that was let go spoke To another ACC asst I happen to know yesterday and that was their account of the events. Said Miller threw them under the bus and said to be successful he needed to make a change.
Non coach? Also heard they were thrown under the bus and FIRED! I'm not sure who the heck would want to play in that program let alone coach with the guy-stay away ☠️
I mean when getting rid of players doesn't work and you can't blame them anymore just blame the staff and fire them! Maybe if that doesn't work he will blame the grounds people and athletic trainers.
If this is true, I can't see a quality asst going to work there. Hearing very similar story at UK, but the assts threw the HC under the bus instead in order to keep their jobs. Apparently it's a more cutthroat world with no loyalty then we may think
There isn't much loyalty in this business unfortunately. It's just a bit ironic when coaches who preach teamwork and selflessness and making sacrifices for the greater good, the "team", decide to cut players and assistants to save their arse. There is a Soccer Karma however, and for guys like Mr. Miller at Pitt, it will come around and bite him at some point. Just disappointing when they decide to leave casualties in their wake rather than be accountable. Another word coaches use a lot. Should more shoes be dropping today? - Friday before Thanksgiving.
I'd argue that there are equal or more asst, or assoc HC that find the only way "up" is to undermine the person that gave them the shot to begin with. Looks like there are a couple of those examples in this year's changes. I've found that this new generation of assistant & associate coaches want the easy road to the top....very, very, very few will take a "lower" job that would require a lot of work, because it may truly expose them. In their minds, its easier to just submarine the male/female ahead of you by either turning the kids against the HC or kissing up to admin.
It works both ways. Very often when the HC goes, the AC's go to. So the AC's have a vested interest in success and in the HC moving up or retiring rather than a negative move that affects them poorly. There are plenty of AC's who pay their dues and don't get considered for the HC job. Look on the men's side. Many more career HCs and ACs that work their butts off and never move up. About Pitt- I do agree if this is all true, it will be very hard to get good new AC's that are not retreads or neophytes. Fran at Villanova was the AC before moving up. Didn't work out so well in spite of his connections and experience. And I think that Delaware job will be interesting. They've never really hired a WS Coach! Maybe he has an exit strategy and the long time AC will get it. A good school in a good mid-major with a great location (in spite of I-95 nightmare traffic). Scott was only avg there but for over 25 years. Curious.
Pitt sounds like a mess - at least by reading this forum over the past few years. I am sure the truth is somewhere in the middle. Villanova would presumably be a good job - team held their own in vast majority of games this season and half the starters were Freshman, a majority of minutes too. Almost all of their scoring were from youngsters. Don't know what is incoming, but if solid recruits can add to what is there the program could have a pretty good upside. Very curious of what went down at UK. A couple of les than stellar seasons, but overall a good resume for Lipsitz. Dayton same as Delaware in that the coach has been around forever - Tucker will be hard to replace; very successful
It seems so many here on this site are into recycling college coaches. The job at Villanova is a great one. FK was in charge of recruiting at Villanova when JB was the head coach. FK was equally responsible for the collapse of the Villanova program as the assistant when JB was let go. Villanova then takes lazy approach and hires FK as head coach, and as expected the poor quality continues. How any AD thought that was the right move is beyond me. The cycle of recycling coaches with average results is baffling. Delaware is also a good job and the AD needs to start fresh.
I find it interesting that no one has asked are the HC or AC's doing the job. There is alot more than wins(ultimately very important) but maybe relationships between coaches and coaches and players are not working. Would it be possible a assist who handles travel keep screwing it up so time to go. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Kulas slides into alma-mater Delaware (where he still lives and has been commuting to Nova). Succession plan between buddies Grzenda and Kulas was probably worked out a year ago when both sensed the turk. Grzenda will probably go back to Christiana schools full-time, club on the side, to retire. why be at the mercy of high school kids at his age? Whispers, is Moschsos the asst talking from Pitt? Not one to leave quitely, took Creighton to court for expenses incurred. Regarding verbal "commits" to Nova, etc. Why the hell "commit" to a 2-1oo team ripe for turnover?
Has Kulas definitely gone there?? And Ileana and Mike were both blindsided by the firing and very upset/angry with the situation. Don't know much about her history at other programs but I've heard similar things about her not being one to go quietly. Still firing two assistants without them having any knowledge it's coming and the first time they find out is sitting in a room with HR is the act of a coward.
Blaming your assistants is the worst sort of craven, disloyal behavior--something that Trump would do. Head coaches hire their assistants, so whether they are good or bad is a reflection of the coach and his management ability. If I was an athletic director, I would look askance at any head who tried to blame assistant's for the team's performance.
Seriously, Kazoo? Let's try to keep this conversation focused on who is on the hot seat in 2016, instead of who is in the driver's seat.
