Back in July, Cassar said "We need to win to get that extension." Since then, we did win - in four of 20 games. So, technically, congratulations are in order. What are the chances the players get together, approach the FO and lobby hard for a coaching change? That locker room is probably pretty toxic right now.
If that is the case, it seems to be pretty quiet. The vets are saying all the right things and we aren't hearing a peep out of the young players. Perhaps this is a bit of a "be careful what you wish for" scenario. The players probably appreciate having a "player's coach" who gives them a lot of responsibility. Unfortunately, that also typically means a coach who allows the players and the team to self motivate and self discipline. From watching in the stands, it appears that Plata and Burrito are allowed by their teammates to walk and give less than 100%...we aren't seeing other teammates getting on their cases (except for Yura from time to time.) It also appears that Javi is so respected by the locker room that none of the players will take him to task for his inevitable loss of multiple steps. [Hell, he's like the 4th or 5th best taker of corners...yet he is on almost every one of them...] So, where RSL needed a taskmaster to kick their butts and take some veterans to task and force everyone to improve, they were stuck with the Asst-coach-is-my-friend coach who has now, predictably, lost control of his vets and failed to implement his system. Simply stated, RSL failed to learn the lesson the Jazz gave all of us when they hired a coach based on continuity, not talent. The only question now is how long it takes for RSL to figure it out and to fix the problem - making the incredibly HUGE assumption that someone at the top has the soccer knowledge to be able make a quality soccer decision. [I have NO question about the current front office's desire to run a quality operation. Unfortunately they have run off anyone with a lick of knowledge about the game.]
We saw the 4-Blob-1 in all its glory today. After one year, we still seem to not know where the rest of the players are moving to. That's tactics. Offball movement is very limited (compare to LA). That's tactics. Fitness is varied. Some guys show it, some don't. Jeff said the plan will work in the post game. I'm not sure what the plan is, but I fail to see any plan out on the field, and that's on him.
RSL starts the season 6-4-2 through May. June on 6-8-8. 6-9-8 counting tonight's shellacking. If they keep Jeff I expect more of what we saw the second half of the season. If we're lucky.
RSL was very Trump like in his post game interview. "My plan WILL WORK! Trust me!" Whats your plan? "It'll work!"
To hell with the RSL Family mantra. It only makes it harder to cut the cord when the cord needs to be cut. Tough love isn't as effective as tough shit when it comes to pro sports. Thanks for your time here, Jeff, but you've lost the confidence and direction in the squad and it's time to go. Thanks for your time Javi, but you're slow and ineffective and it's time to be a coach. Thanks for your time Kyle, but we could really free up some cap space if we sold you to another team. You certainly aren't getting any better at this point in your career. RSL needs a new coach, a new core and a new direction. Relying on younglings with a mix of ineffective vets has not got them anywhere. And those who are in the "never trade Beckerman" camp, you are part of this RSL Family problem.
IDK. In Utah when I see "family" attached to anything, I think of hordes of unruly results of an unscientific fear of birth control and I stay the hell away.
I especially enjoyed Trump's statement: "I have a great plan to address that, and as soon as I'm elected I will reveal it".
To be fair, he has laid out many of his plans, as well as what he'd do in his first 100 days in office. We already know what Hillary has to offer, as seen by the last 8 years of weakness and crooked behavior. This being said, any continuing discussion of presidential candidates should be taken up in an NSR thread. I think that would benefit pretty much everyone on the RSL board.
I dislike both candidates, and wasn't singling him out since he was already mentioned. It's an amazing statement and I will be chuckling years from now.
Any DLH appearances with coaches not named Jeff in the last 24 hours? I am waiting on some news man. The shoe has dropped, right?
IDK. It wasn't that long ago that RSL or somebody published that Cassar had been offered an extension. If RSL is backing off of that, and I'm a coaching candidate, I will be looking dubiously at the situation. I would have no trust in the organization's leadership at all. Literally, I'm not sure that this could have been handled any worse than RSL has handled it.
This isn't the first time, and certainly won't be the last, that this sentiment has been expressed about the DLH-led RSL front office.
I used to love watching RSL games, now they're hardly ever entertaining even with Plata and Burrito.... Sad! RSL fans need to start a #JaviMo4Coach movement... he is the team's Guillermo Barros Schelotto why not give him a shot? It also checks the (bs) "RSL Family" mantra box. Meanwhile send Cassar to Real Monarchs to learn how to coach.
I love this team, but isn't the idea of getting one of the players to be promoted to coach, even if its Javi, still going to recycle ideas and momentum? I think we need a new outside perspective.
I don't understand the obsession with making Javi or Kyle or Nick, or any other player currently on the roster the next coach.
