You gotta admit the best team didn't win and the tournament as a whole was one of the worst tournaments in recent memory..

It was god awful to watch the majority of the time.

    THANK YOU UEFA!

Too bad for France that Germany couldn't score their goals for them in the final as well. There is only so much the German team could do in the spirit of the German-French friendship.

Btw, I think Platini effed his nation with that extension. I think Portugal qualified as a third place finisher for the ko stages.

Portugal earned this, and I don't think it's right to try and minimize their achievement. They played fundamentally sound and consistent football all tournament. They looked to be defensively solid first, but that didn't mean they never went forward. Ultimately the old cliche "defence wins tournaments" prevailed here.

I guess Germany played garbage defense then???

Can people just call a ********ing spade a spade for once?

This was a god awful tournament won by a team that played god awful football without winning a single ********ing game in group and into the KO rounds...

I can't stand this devils advocate shit

Germany played good defence throughout most of the tournament, but they went full retard on the two France goals.
I'm sorry you feel that way. I just see it differently.

Germanys defence were good, but not good enough to win. You can't afford lapses in big games, which is what happened.

But they won the trophy, which is what it's all about. You don't have to play beautiful football, you have to get the result.

And no team played really well in this tournament, so no one should feel bitter towards Portugal. They deserved it as much as anyone. They don't have the best players, but they have an effective system.

Germany and Italy were the best teams in this tournament and neither of them was in the final. Football can be so cruel.

I'm OK with Portugal winning their first Trophy. I am not OK with Germany screwing themselves out of playing in final that had good odds in our favor.

We had key injuries going in and key injuries at the worst time plus some seriously bad luck... It does suck

I think they'll be favorites again at the WC, after they tweek some spots as well

We would have beat France at SDF. Marseille was a very raucous crowd, tonight there were only neutrals and Portuguese.

True winners with strong characters deal with hostile environments, look at Wembley 96 for example. A raucous crowd should never be used as an excuse.

The fact that we didn't score had nothing to do with the venue...or we would have beaten Italy in 2006 at the Westfalenstadion.

If the USMNT can win at the Azteca, any one can win as a visitor anywhere.

As soon as Ronaldo was off I was rooting for Portugal. Happy for the Portuguese people, it's so hard for the small countries to win a big tournament that I can't be sad about this. It wasn't pretty but it worked.

Even If Germany lost against France, and Portugal beating France in the final ... I some how feel that Germany are still the best team in world at this stage.

Oh absolutely. We're still the best, and I see lots of comments from Portugese fans that Germany would've been a tougher opponent. France beat us; it wasn't our day, and the injuries added up, but we're still the best. There's hardly a doubt in my mind.

So apparently there are unlikely winners every 12 years at the Euros:
    Denmark in 1992 -> Greece in 2004 -> Portugal in 2016.

Calling it now, England to win Euro 2028! :p
