So even YOU want to believe that meme, I guess. Let me clear this up once and for all... THERE ARE NO NAILS IN THE FIELD!!!!!
I dont care what one FCE player said, or what Funk and the assholes who run his organization say.
Not. One. Nail. In. The. Field.
And maybe you don't know this, but even the mighty Cosmos have contacted Rayo OKC about the Nexxfield turf. I guess they see how much better it would be than playing on a field with HOFSTRA written across it in several places, and at least three, DIFFERENT game field lines.
I guess they don't mind "all the nails on the field..." What a joke! But please, believe what you want to believe.

    Not for long, unfortunately.

Why would the Cosmos give a $#!+ about what Tulsa does?

Maybe the County Commissioners in Tulsa were more forthcoming with him than you? I don't know?!

Yay Brad! Exactly how is it a "180" to propose playing in a HS stadium, when you lose your original HS Stadium?

Well, Im glad we cleared that up. I was REALLY losing sleep.

Don't know. We'll have to see. One thing is certain, though. If it ends tomorrow I will NEVER support the team on May Ave. Weird thing is, I was going to ask you the same thing. Do you see the same ambiance when your team isnt playing in Driller Stadium, and instead is renting space at Cascia Hall?

You mean the team that beat your team 5-1? Good times. Good times. I really don't care. We aren't IN the NPSL anymore. I support the WPSL team. And if they start another NPSL side, we'll support that. I don't care if we get 1,110 people, or not. I'll be there.

At least we have some common ground then. I just cant seem to get you to admit that BFunk is just as much to blame for your team not being more than they are right now, as you seem to want to blame BLund for.
The fact that the Tulsa Roughnecks are a 3rd division USL side, instead of a 2nd division NASL side (playing the NY Cosmos) is MORE due to BFunk. From what I have pieced together Brad and Sean were trying to bring the Roughnecks back to life in Tulsa, but didnt know yet that the name wasnt copy-written? Someone from Funks group got wind of it, and bought the name within the next few days. And the rest is...well, you know. Too bad, really. I would love to have the Roughnecks up the turnpike in the NASL.
And even WITH the Energy having a two-year head start, AND two ass-weasels as owners who have tried to cock-block Sean and Brad at every turn, AND even with BFunk "locking up" Tulsa with the Roughnecks they STILL were able to start the NASL team and draw 4-5K in the Spring Season.
    Does this speak to;
    Tenacity of vision?
    Dogged determination?
Popularity of soccer in Oklahoma City?
Who knows? I'm just glad Sean Jones never gave up. I want Rayo OKC to succeed as much for him, and his family, as I do for myself, or Oklahoma City soccer at large.[/quote]

That likely shouldn't be used as an endorsement of the field. Not saying I don't agree with it as a better option ... but the mighty Cosmos aren't making decisions from a position of power ... they're desperate!

I agree with you, but this guy wants to hold them up as the pinnacle of everything that soccer SHOULD be, or something. And then he wants to use the tired, FALSE meme about "nails in the turf". I just wanted to point out that his soccer heroes have apparently contacted Rayo OKC about our field. And please remember, Rayo OKC did NOT come up with this idea. Montreal Impact uses this field when they play games at Olympic Stadium. So, it is fully supported by McSoccer League.
From what I have seen, and heard, it's a good field. Is it the best thing EVER? No.
The best thing ever would be a natural grass field. But that isnt an option where we are.
    Rayo OKC's options were;
    1. Play on the existing field and leave the end zones and line markings. No. See NY Cosmos and Hofstra
    2. Play on the existing field and pay to paint it multiple times per year. No. Expensive, time-consuming, and ultimately not completely successful. See ANY artificial turf field that has been painted.
    3. Install Nexxfield OVER the existing turf, and simply pick it up/lay it down as needed. (But make sure you get "all the nails" out :D

Option 3 became the only one that made sense, even though they have to pay ~$8-900,000 for the field.

How many soccer fans in MLS-ready Atlanta know who the hell Victor Nogueira is, let alone Phil Woosnam?

Probably had something to do with "Not Your Mascot" being a thing
    How many care? Hopefully few
We've already passed the event horizon on soccer as a financially viable spectator sport in the US and are into the heady days just after American players didn't have to have off-season jobs like NFL players did up through the late 70's

And in other news, Rayo OKC ends the first fall home game like it ends MOST home games this year; by dropping points in stoppage time.
I just don't get it. We have a knack for giving up tying, and winning, goals in the dying minutes of a game. Even though we tied, it STILL feels like a loss. OKC had the lead for most of the game. The, like clockwork, we went into a defensive shell for the last 20 minutes of the game. 3 minutes of stoppage time seemed to turn into 4 1/2 minutes of stoppage time. And then, for some some unexplained reason, our two central defenders take the ball all the way down the field in the dying embers of the game. But instead of taking it to the corner, they rush the goal and put up a quick shot. Sooo, the goalie simply throws the ball over their heads, they attack, and score the winning goal while half of our defense is running back down the field...
    ARGH!

Now that the Silverbacks are gone, they may just get away with it (confirming rumors I'd heard from two different sources dating back a few years that the NASL has wanted a "return" of the Atlanta Chiefs)...

Granted, nothing wrong necessarily with the word for "Administrative leader of a society"... but the good people of Georgia have shown a historic lack of respect for my ancestors who lived there.

THE sports story of every homer's life...

I feel for you, my expectations of this squad -and other's who will no longer admit it- have been lowered after the spring season & USOC. That's not to say their performance couldn't be chalked up to expansion stigma or coaching/management, rather that adjustments need to be made somewhere. All I have to say is Rayo's fans are more mature soccer fans if the support is still there through this season and the next. At least they're not Miami fans...

We need to give them time, i just don't want to; -)

And on another note this is NOT the ATL Silverbacks thread. If you want to talk about them and expansion, as it relates to THEM, then please talk about it on their thread.

Just an opinion but it could be the unusual amount of ex-RSL players you have. They are notorious.

“I’ve been playing in Europe the past 17 years, I have a lot of experience. And now I just want to play football and help my team win. That is what’s important to me. We are a new team, a very humble team. Everyone comes to training and gives 100 percent. I like the commitment. We are in a new situation and we are still getting used to each other. We know it’s not going to be easy, but our goal is to play in the postseason.”

    Welcome_Sebastien.jpg
Rayo OKC has received Sebastian Ibeagha on loan for the remainder of the 2016 North American Soccer League (NASL) season.

Ibeagha (pronounced: Ibby-AH-ga), was signed by the Houston Dynamo earlier this year and has spent the majority of the season on loan with the team’s USL affiliate, Rio Grande Valley FC Toros, making two appearances. The 6-2 center back played for Deer Creek High School before moving to Houston in 2008. Ibeagha started his professional career playing for Danish side AC Horsens. While with Horsens, Ibeagha spent time on loan with FC Fredericia (Denmark) and Fram Reykjavik (Iceland). Ibeagha represented the United States’ U20 National team from 2010 through 2011, making seven appearances.

Rayo OKC head coach Alen Marcina had this to say about his new additions: “Adding Sebastien will provide strength in areas I think we have struggled so far. He brings pace and athleticism to back line. He is extremely motivated and we are excited to bring more local talent to the club. We welcome him to the Rayo Family.”
