I know what you're thinking/hoping for come the start of the 2017/2018 season. With man this is impossible, but with Totti all things are possible.
My point is, hypothetically, what happens if he starts scoring a bunch of goals? What will Pallotta or anyone else do at that point in regards to Totti? Will they say no more or will they let him continue on and/or retire whenever he wants?
Well, I'd say next year is the last for sure. Totti signed a contract to become technical director after next season so I would say that the chance of him being technical director and a player are slim. I've been one of the biggest supporters of Totti here and if for some crazy reason he wanted to continue playing after next season I think Roma would be completely justified in not offering him a renewal. That said I think there is 0% chance he wants to play after this season.
Because you don't put your hand in a hornet`s nest just to prove that you can. Totti`s place in the team, his form, his contract, his future and so on have proven to be a very dividing topics for the fans. Don't you have anything better to do than bringing them out when it's not their time?
Management most certainly has put their hand directly on this topic and at 40 years old do you actually think or believe it's not their time to make a decision and not start talking about it? If anything I think time is growing short by the day and again this story has been an ongoing topic of discussion for at least the last 5 years. Do you possibly think this will go away over night especially if he starts scoring goals? I don't think so! Unless he scores goals regularly then I'd say the club will be at square one once again.
If I'm Pallotta there is no chance I sign him again... I don't care if he scores 15 goals. Also, I think Totti just wanted to hit the 25 year mark, his wife said earlier in the season it was very difficult physically for him now. Like I said, IMO, the fact he has signed on to be TD says it all.
Probably half the people in this forum have started being Roma fans partially because of Totti. I am certainly one of those people. But tell me - how is the thing you are asking different for Totti than for any other of our players? If Totti scores 20 goals and feels he can go for one more season - there are things called negotiations. If El Shaarawy scores 20 goals and feels his contract is unacceptable - there are negotiations. If Manolas scores 50 goals - there would certainly be some negotiations starting. Why should Totti be different in that regard? But as we are talkings about IFs - tell me what if Totti does not play as well as last season? Then what? Would we tell him - sorry, mate, you've got contract to the end of the year, but let's come and re-negotiate so that you could retire in January instead. No, we won`t - because there is a contract in place and its purpose is to keep both parties happy, unless the party that plays on the field starts to feel unappreciated. You should deal with it. I honestly advise you to re-join your meaningless protest about the stadium regulations and leave the simple matters to continue being simple matters.
What? Who is protesting? I simply asked, if he scores a bunch of goals next season, what will management say or do or address his contract as a player at this point next year? That is a bad thing to ask? I don't understand the reasoning. Again, my initial point remains and is, if they want or wanted him out from February until April/May this year, what can possibly happen this time next year if he scores or starts scoring like he did? Don't you think they won't be in the same boat?
I don't see how it can impact players and never understood the actual role. I mean the players play and the coaches coach. What possibly can a TD do to change a coaches style other than working and coaching players on a daily level? Bruno Conti seemed to develop some younger players during his time Totti, DeRossi and Aquilani and I think he is still somewhat involved but no one ever really knew his actual role with the club after he quit playing.
What is even more ridiculous is a TD for a national team. What on earth can he do with players he sees a handful of times through the year.
Other than scouting clubs regular season matches and going over tapes and videos of different players , the national team TD sounds like a pretty a glorified job. I'm glad clubs keep old players around but I still don't get their actual direct impact. Zanetti who was a defender for years and other than speaking Spanish at Inter, what could he possibly have taught Icardi in goal scoring? Same with Figo during their CL run?
Exactly and therefore, once again, what exactly would a VP /technical director or whatever glorified name you wish to give it do? For that matter, what impact has Zanetti made first under Thoir and now the new Chinese ownership? What does or can he possibly know about being an administrator or even running a franchise if he was a player for 20 + years? Can he balance a budget or juggle salaries or is he there just as another liaison for the players?
Bruno Conti is the head of our entire youth sector. Alberto De Rossi coaches our primavera. Balzaretti is Sabatini's assistant and works with our scouting team. Perrotta last I heard had some coaching role with the club. I'm pretty sure they will find a meaningful job for Totti.
LOL Scopa or Briscola? I had heard Conti did do some good with the younger players but that was around 10-15 years ago....I also heard he still smokes a few packs a day.
