Sabo better be careful bending to hug Acosta like that; he could rupture a disk or something bend that low. http://matchcenter.mlssoccer.com/ma...ted-vs-new-york-red-bulls/details/video/65221
Klesjtan remain calm, just before half, was reminiscent of Kevin Bacon in Animal House... 2-0! Destroy those cancers!
Nice first half. I love the second goal in particular -- it always feels like our mistakes our punished and we lack the ability to punish our opponents' mistakes. Lawrence kept Neagle onside by being lazy pushing forward, and we made them pay. I don't know what's going on in our central defense, but we're pretty lucky it's not at least 2-1 at this point. It's starting to look, from the last few games, like one of the reasons Olsen has to play so defensively in the center of the midfield is to cover for the center of our backline, which is a bad sign. Worra, channeling Hamid. Great half. Feel like we may see Jeffrey for Marcelo at 60 minutes. He's walking a thin line for that second yellow.
Neagle. Pushed DeLeon out wide left, it looks. Right now, Marcelo looks like he'll survive without a second yellow, so we got away with it, but with our next game being against the East-leading Union, this seemed risky.
Much better game from Saborio ... Goal and assist and some good hold up play towards the end ... Olsen seemed to give him an emphatic pat on the back when he came off ...
Any time we can bend the RedDoucheBags over the sink and ream them is a good game. I thought Worra, Nyarko, Acosta, Saborio, and Birnbaum had particularly good games. Neagle played well, but I wonder if he hurt something? I thought he was slowing up and told Mrs. W, that he should come out because he was not nearly as fast as he should be. Not long after that he did come out. Sarvas also had a good game, but was walking a very thin line. This was the best that DC has played as a "team" in a long time, IMHO.
I really do not get this team at all. But I guess we see how important the first goal is. Well done to the late-arriving crowd as well.
Nice crowd...which seems to happen as colleges start letting out. Though, there was a Nats game that was starting at around the same time and some other events going on around town.
BTW, after tonight's game played on Friday the 13th, the team now has 13 points and is sitting 13th in the Supporters' Shield table.
The Jeffrey sub made sense, and it worked out beautifully because Jeffrey played superbly for the time he was in. I thought Nicky would come out because he came down awkwardly and was limping for awhile. Expected to see Vincent but Nicky shook it off. Buescher was a good sub, but I saw no reason to give Espy another chance to strain his hammy when the game was in hand. Our back line was in control. And can we please give Worra some love? He did his best Hamid imitation tonight. BTW, for the last two games Zach Thornton has worked out Worra during the halftime break, especially on securing high balls.
Also, I have to say, I like what I see from Buscher, too. Smart play, good vision, puts himself in dangerous and disruptive spots. I'd say our main problem tonight was playing their wide players too soft, which is dangerous when we don't have the defensive speed to keep up with their forwards...but the whole midfield (and Acosta) did great keeping their midfield disrupted and with few options.
Pantheon of incredibly pleasant things: 1. Sex. If you haven't tried it, shame on you. Generally a good use of time 2. Single malt scotch. Not as good as sex but less complicated. 3. Beating the Metros. Arguably my favorite sporting experience. If you blew off this game, you missed a great time.
Very impressive -- RBNY got a few looks, but generally were shut down effectively. The first goal was surgical precision. Nyarko's pass to Sarvas and the cross to Sabo went like a training exercise. Nyarko is a very good player with vision, touch and now, 3 goals on the year. Acosta gave the defenders fits, he's "gelling" into the team quite well and creates danger whenever he's on the ball. Finally, as Hamid rounds into shape, let's acknowledge the wonderful job Travis Worra has done. Yeah, DCU is "only" at 13 points after 11 matches, but how many MLS teams would be in a better position if they had to play their 3rd string 'keeper in 12 of those matches? Kid got another clean sheet and made a nice reaction save in goal. You honestly couldn't expect better from a 3rd stringer with 2 MLS games to his credit before the season. This probably was the best DCU has looked all year because RBNY really needed the points in this game. They were on a little run, but now sit below the "red line" with 7 losses already this season.
I am often critical but tonight... best game of the year so far! The perfect win. Everybody played really well - with the exception of De Leon but unfortunately that has become the rule... Worra probably MOTM with Nyarko and Acosta right behind. Acosta is getting better and better at each game, that's because he plays entire games or almost and not only 15 minutes here and 10 minutes there. I am glad Olsen got it, maybe he remembers the mistake done with Boskovic.
I love Acosta, but he needs to cut out the dumb turnovers. I thought Nyarko and Sarvas were MotM again. As much as we all like to rag on the FO, those pickups (along with Neagle) were smart and they've been among our best players all season. And I agree that I'd like to see more of Buescher. Being able to run around up front without a lot to worry about obviously makes a difference, but I'd like to see him in the NDL spot.
