Partly the Breakers' own doing through trades (Leroux-Mewis swap; Mewis no longer allocated). https://t.co/5BES9Mij43— Jeff Kassouf (@JeffKassouf) August 6, 2015 Uh... what? When did this happen? Can/Would they really deallocate a player in the middle of a season? And if they were doing this, shouldn't Barnhart and Van Hollebeke have been deallocated too since they haven't had any caps in a long time either and those teams have more allocated players than the Breakers?
That's why I asked if they would really deallocate a player in the middle of the season. It's either an unannounced mid-season deallocation or he was wrong.
Breakers promoting 2016 season tickets, but at a hefty (15-16%) increase over 2015 prices for 10 home games. Part of the 3-year plan? Emboldened by post-WWC attendance? Any increase seems rather cheeky given product they are presenting......... Cat I was $270 now $310 Cat II was $215 now $250 Cat III was $185 now $215
They were originally promoting 12 home games. Not sure if it changed or they just decided they should remain hush hush about it prior to the schedule officially being announced. But if there are the 2 additional games then the price per game has actually gone down.
To be fair, there's probably an economy of scale at work in Portland. If you know you're going to move seven thousand or whatever season tickets, you don't have to make as much per capita.
That would make sense but I was going by their 206 season ticket website, which defines the categories in what appears to be a straight cut and paste from thhe015 listing on their main website and specifies 10 home games: https://www.breakerstickets.com/2016-Season-Tickets&Tickets Category I (Preferred) Season Membership Includes: - Seating in Category I sections - Pre-season Meet The Team Event - Name listed on the Breakers Family Page - 10 Home Game Tickets - Post Season Team Event Access
I wonder if the 12 home games may also be an indication they are taking an expansion team into account. It would work nicely if RSL or another Western team was coming in. Would take some of the burden of travel and expense off the teams by having the teams play the two extra games against teams in their region.
Actually, 12 homes games for 10 teams isn't all that great of an arrangement.... That's 24 games total for 9 opponents, which is rather messy. 24 total games for 9 teams works much nicer, 3x for each of your 8 opponents - all it is is what they did last year. Nothing spectacular or anything to read in to.
Boston posted this image today in a tweet: Says "12 home game tickets." Not sure which one to believe.
This is the same one that was emailed to Breakers' supporters last week. I think the 10 game posting on the website was a copy and paste error from this season as someone already alluded to. Some of the staffers for the Breakers do need to pay more attention to the details of what they are doing. A couple of games this year fans picking up will call tickets were complaining that their tickets were printed off for the wrong games.
Valid point I am not claiming to be perfect either but when you are dealing with something as important as season ticket sales it is important to have things proofread to make sure everything matches up to what the franchise is advertising and what is being stated on the website at point of purchase. It causes confusion, looks unprofessional and may deter potential buyers if they advertise 12 games and then offer 10 on the website.
Either they caught it or someone read this thread but it is fixed. 2016 ticket website now reads 12 home games: https://www.breakerstickets.com/2016-Season-Tickets&Tickets Category I (Preferred) Season Membership Includes: - Seating in Category I sections - Pre-season Meet The Team Event - Name listed on the Breakers Family Page - 12 Home Game Tickets - Post Season Team Event Access But in any case, very poor form to get it wrong in the first place. Do hope they proofread contracts and trade agreements more thoroughly than their own marketing materials
We made some of these points and more in a prior thread in the Breakers forum. Some nice responses from Breakers staff but in the end, no real action. Things are still sloppy and don't even bring up onfield expectations and performance. Having said that and looking at couple other NWSL team websites, I don't think this is exclusively a Boston issue and to the casual browser it doesn't shed a good light on the league or its teams.
This actually begs the question of how much the Breakers (or other NWSL teams) value season ticket sales. There seems to be significant effort to promote single ticket and revolving group ticket sales, perhaps resulting in higher margin per ticket and more ongoing one-off concession sales at the expense of a consistent ticket base. Just a random thought based on about half the teams having super low entry level season tickets offers (about $100) versus the others like Boston who start at between 80-100% more than that. Different philosophies and stadium situations at work.
The player contracts are done by the League office, as the players contract with the League and not with the individual teams.
Has anyone posted this link to Beau Dure's awesome blog? http://www.sportsmyriad.com/2015/08/nwsl-spirit-flash-report-we-want-more-of-this-ing-league/ Beau, I feel exactly as you do. To be honest, I would rather see another month or so of nail-biting competition of NWSL then the "Victory Tours" by our USWNT who will sleep-walk through the games, more then likely beat their opponents by multiple goals and then run around high-fiving each other.
Of the 6 games announced so far, 4 of them are against Australia and Brazil. I highly doubt the US is going to be racking up the goals in those games. And there's still going to be NWSL games even with the tour. The league deliberately scheduled breaks during FIFA dates so as not to have league games when NT are playing on the tour.
It will be interesting to see how they schedule next year with the Olympics in August and players gone for at least a month before that.
