3rd place matches should be outlawed. The players never want to play them anyway after the disappointment of losing the semis.

In the Portland, Oregon area we do not get FS2 on Comcast (Xfinity), and the last time I looked that is where the US game is being played. This is a real bummer.

I agree except for the World Cup. I'd be ecstatic about a third place finish given our program's history. I can understand the apathy from the established world powers, but most national sides aren't in that elite tier. Still, I don't mind a small consolation prize after a long four-year cycle.

At least FIFA and its confederations aren't stupid like FIBA that has 7th place matches for inane reasons.

They went about this the wrong way...you don't telegraph this line of thinking. Just before the match, the team comes down with food poisoning or something like that . Get your team doctor to play along and there's nothing FIFA can do without proof.

I hate the 3rd place game at the World Cup. Not to mention, if you lose the 3rd place game you are doubly disappointed and have ended your otherwise great tournament with two straight losses.

The problem is usually trying to get the rubber to stay on.

Dempsey is going to play, remember the record.

Panama must be demoralized. They should be in the final.

Klinsmann has something to prove. We're going to rule this one.

This game tomorrow is going to be an absolute farce:

Kyle McCarthy ‏@kylejmccarthy 10m10 minutes ago
Hernan Dario Gomez essentially says we're fine with losing tomorrow, just as long as we're ready with a full team for World Cup qualifying.

Yellow cards carry over to WCQ? With 6 players on a yellow....

    We could win like 8-0.

Bet JK starts with Dempsey, Bradley, Johnson, Bedoya, Guzan, the works.

This would be a fireable offense. I can't imagine what level of cluelessness would allow that, except for trying to save your phone-baloney job.

No, I think the assumption is that a second yellow would earn a suspension that carries over to World Cup qualification. So we shouldn't be seeing Beckerman or Yedlin.

Yeah, that's what I was wondering. That's why Gomez mentioned his 6 players on yellows, he wants to avoid them getting a 2nd.

Good point on our players too. Forgot about those.

Ugh. I'm starting to think Panama is just going to kick the ball around and call it a day. What do we do if they do that?

I think it'd be interesting to see how Ream would be as a D-mid. I mean we don't have a ton of options there and he is pretty good on the ball and quicker than Beckerman.

If Beckerman sees any time during qualifiers were in deep trouble.

Are you sure GC yellows carry over to WCQ? I thought each tourney has different counts.
